Title: Patience
Post by: Jitendra Hy-do-u-no-us? on Aug 13, 2010 07:25 pm
Patience is a byproduct of difficulties. It is not given but learned. Krishna
The greatest prayer is patience. ... prayer is patience”. Buddha
A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel. Proverbs 15:18
Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm. For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the Lord will possess the land. Psalm 37:7-9
I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1
But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15
Such was my meeting with my guru, Paramahansa Yogananda. .... but always there was boundless compassion, and patience when patience  was needed. ... Daya Mata
Tolerance means to bear pain or hardships with patience. Muhammad
If I have ever made any valuable discoveries, it has been owing more to patient attention, than to any other talent.
Isaac Newton
Question: How much Patience is needed? is there really nothing we can do?
Osho : The moment you ask how much, you miss the point. You cannot ask how much patience is needed. The very question says that the patience is not there, you are impatient. Patience never asks how much, patience always knows that whatsoever you do it is always less than needed. That’s why those who have attained always say: When we attained it was not because of our efforts,
it was because of his grace.
Don’t ask how much patience. The very question comes out of impatience. And IS THERE REALLY NOTHING WE CAN DO? Yes, there is really nothing that YOU can do. The doer is the barrier. You are the hindrance. Drop this you and the doer. Life is a happening, it is not an act, and all that is great and beautiful is a happening. You cannot do it, you can only allow it to happen, please allow it; all that you need to do is to allow it.

Steve,

Nice post and quotes on patience. I used to get all sorts of creative messages talking about patience. Now I seem to be getting less messages about patience and the messages have changed to " focus ".

One of the messages we receive about learning patience, is when we are in a hurry to get somewhere, and we are caught in traffic. There is just nothing you can do about it, you can't go faster than those around you, you can't "escape " and take a different route as usually one is in the middle lane and there is no exit. You just have to sit there and think of something beneficial to occupy your time, while you " patiently " wait ! And of course, no matter how much fussing one does about the situation, all that does is make it more difficult. Breathe, relax, be in the moment - be grateful, matters could always be worse !

blessings,
Into Blue

i believe many of us get discouraged with meditation because of a lack of patience and faith. But as we start looking at our lives and thoughts we become more and more aware of the impediments to our spiritual experiences in meditation. It is simply because we still have many unfulfilled desires lurking in our consciousness. The only hope i have had is to replace those desires with the consciousness of spirit. Because that consciousness can dwarf all physical desires. But it requires much patience with out practice and with ourselves. In the process we learn patience with circumstances and other people as well.
