'Those who enter that temple of silence are able to commune with other God-bent souls; they comprehend the conversation of the flowers and of all living creatures.' It seems that the Master is encouraging our communication with the animal totems as well!

Sitting in the temple of silence, surrounded by nature, one hears whispers in the wind. It would have been interesting to know which animal totems visited Yogananda.

Yes when in the warmth of the August Sun an occasional breeze is God sent.

Paramahansa Yogananda had a deer that he loved 'deerly' among other pets that surrounded him. There are stories of it in the AOY. Also deer would walk into the Mother Center when he was there. There is a statue of him with a deer at the Hollywood Temple.

Master also had a tiger that visited him in his dreams...when he was a young boy.  night after night...this tiger came to him.  after a while Guruji understood why this tiger was in his dreams....helped him Realize some things...  ;)

i wonder if this tiger...was a totem.

In lesson 101 I read this; "you meet God first on the altar of calmness, a negative aspects of His presence; but when you go deeper, in samadhi-oneness you will meet God on the altar of his omnipresent bliss."

"When you meet people do not become affected by their state of consciousness be one with those who are ever singing of God; remain aloof from those who reveal undesirable qualities."  Paramahansa Yogananda

i have revealed some undesirable qualities myself in life. i am fortunate to have people in my life who are 'ever singing of God' and i aspire to do the same.

In lesson 101 Paramahansa Yogananda speaks about the importance of the spiritual eye.

"A person in a lighted room whose windows are shuttered may enjoy the beautiful furnishings of the room, but can see nothing beyond unless he opens the shutters and looks out. Similarly, we live in a sunlit decorated hall of earth, but we cannot behold the territory of the infinite unless we open the window of the spiritual eye."

Sometimes one does not even need nature. Although it is true that the sounds in the wind help bring us within. In lesson 102 The Master speaks of getting beyond thoughts which are the result of sensations or memories of sensations. 'As soon as you become locked in communion with his joy, you can hear the song of God -- Aum, the music of the spheres.' You may even hear this divine music of om and not realize its significance. i can tell u this from experience and i also am close friends with someone who saw the spiritual eye but at the time did not know what it was or did she understand its significance.

The reason i continually go back to lesson 102 is that there are four guided meditations that the Master gives in this lesson. i aspire to practice them correctly.

It is a strange thing. i awoke tonite and immediately started to interiorize into the practice of doing a mantra 104 times. After i was done i realized thay my mind was functioning on four different levels that i was aware of!
One was a conversation i had with mccoy today. Secondly a reply i wanted to make to one of Brock's posts, thirdly how many times i had repeated the mantra and lastly to the practice of the mantra itself!  It can be amazing how shallow our practice can be.

Suddenly i remembered this lesson.  In it Paramahansa Yogananda makes this assertion: Unless you completely free the temple of attention from disturbing thoughts, God will not manifest there. If you are thinking of something when you are praying to God, He will not answer. Why should he? Your inattention is an indication you do not want him--at least not earnestly enough. God does not surrender himself unless he is absolutely sure every worldly thought is removed from your mind. He is like a candle flame that can not withstand the gust of restlessness. His light will burn steadily in your temple of meditation when you are free from restlessness. P.Y.

I keep on reflecting on this point.
