Title: What Inspires us to Meditate?
Post by: Jitendra Hy-do-u-no-us? on Mar 17, 2012 11:10 am
Perhaps we can add to this list of reasons we are inspired to meditate. i will start with a couple:

It is the best way to find true happiness.
It helps us see clearer.
It gives direction to our lives.
It changes are perspective towards others, our lives and ourselves.
It helps us to experience God's presence

hi steve. last night i had been seriously thinking on meditation. i had stopped because daily meditation was leaving me feeling isolated from my generation and crazy. i still havent meditated fully to say i am disciplined and can still my mind. in fact i felt a little crazy like i was starting to live inside my head even more so. but you know what im missing something from that life style now. a reason i want to get back into meditation is for clarity. also for understanding my emotions and others without getting involved emotionally. the whole reason i posted the how to train your psychic senses was a result of last nights pondering regarding meditation. i miss feeling light and free. i want to communicate with spirits most importantly. i know the ultimate goal is to draw closer to god but i really want to see auras again or smell beautiful aromas that arent present- i want to train in psychometry and remote viewing. i think a little meditation will help in these areas. thanks ! hey, parallel synchronicity is it ?

Eric we must recognize that we live in a very crazy culture. We must live and think out of the box. Otherwise we will end up like all the rest of the chickens that end up getting fried. This drama that is being played for us is very tantalizing. God set it up so that his drama would play for a long time. Yet we know that there r a few of us who r finding their way out of the labyrinth. We congregate and compare notes together. We must find our way out of the slave culture we born into. A genius is always ridiculed on some level. Why not recognize who we r and who they r? This is our plight. Y waste your life fighting the real u?  Every experience in life is a door that opens to freedom or prison. It is our choice. Do we continue our life with those who live in a slave colony?

Parallel synchronicity? Our destiny has found its time. We r citizens of the cosmos. Y get lost in the slums of spiritual amnesia? We all live in our heads. U r just noticing it more in meditation. Think of the dark closets that most people inhabit in their minds. They do not even know there is a light switch. At least we have turned on the light switch in the dark closets of our minds and recognize the small space we have inhabited.

Hey Eric !   8)

no reason to miss out on life !

meditation may not be the answer for everyone

some people really get into it, others don't

meditation should not replace  living and experiencing life

one cannot just sit and live in this absent state of mind called bliss forever

or maybe some can     ;D 8)

relax, you will not become fried chicken, lol !  ;D

But then we re-enter the material world. We may leave the church parking lot and fight to be the first one to leave before all the others.(Unless your a turtle and you are just glad to make to the other side safely) ;).... How easy we seem to forget or maybe we become entangled again at this spiritual level like fishing line that wasn't properly spooled (schooled he he). HELP, THIS IS A MESS! ;D ;)

Delusion is strong yet the draw towards the lite is even stronger. Some of us learn from the pain of the world. This is our first teacher: the world. When we r in tune with the guru and our guides we begin to recognize that our destiny is reoriented. We r no longer the victims of the whims of our conditioning environment. We draw from those who have been put into our lives to show us the path towards the lite. Our pull towards what we think we have been missing out on begins to weaken. We realize that what the world shows us is not true any how. This is not reality. We r all in God's dream. Nothing is real especially all the drama that is playing around us. Our search for the truth will open doors to the true reality.

This does take some patience and faith. These r also qualities that we r developing when we think we r missing out on life. Our faith is sometimes weak and we begin to have faith again in the world and not in the truth and the intuitive flashes that lead us away from delusion. But eventually our magnet changes and our material minds r reshaped to accommodate the truth of existence and the true meaning of the experiences we have.

hi elfun; you really don't have to go to church to be meditating.
the idea is to bring the peace and joy we feel in meditation into our lives.
1 might ask a question of themselves: how do you escape our thoughts?
where our thoughts are : there is our consciousness. the only way,
developed by man, to escape and transcend  our thoughts is thru meditation.
meditation is the portal out of this dimension.

yet thoughts are a very strong thing. I have not heard from you for a while. and after I got done posting this I saw your name on the forum..... the power of thought!

I tried meditating in Church once

too much singing, Hallelujiahs and stand up/ sit down goings on  ;D

squirrel prefers hanging out on the branch in solitude

why escape the thoughts ?
why not invite them in and ask questions ?  8)

there is a time for everything a time for thinking and a
time for not  thinking. do not believe everything you think.
meditation goes beyond thought. because when we cast away our thoughts and
enter deeper states of conscious. when we experience peace love and bliss... we go beyond the.     apparatus of thought. when thoughts come back and thinking comes back we we re-enter human consciousness. we must get beyond ourselves to reach higher states of consciousness; this includes getting  beyond our thoughts. for as we think we are in our body we also think we are in our thoughts.
yet in reality we are much much more.

you seem to have a love for nature. have you not ever been in the woods
and felt this oneness with everything. this joy... this beauty around you.
if you did. did it make you very happy? this is the kind of bliss I'm speaking of. sometimes we are so happy we just cry and cry and cry but it is out of joy.
sometimes when we meditate we experience this bliss... the remembrance of this experience
is still with us and sometimes it percolates up into our consciousness during daily life.
 can you relate?

Nomaste2all i do not know if you know how much joy it gives me/us to have you come back here. i know it will never be quite the same. But how can we forget there is so much joy..... so much joy we shared!

Jitendra

Namaste2All; It reminds me of the times we shared in the woods of Northern California and mountains of Tennessee. Thanks for sharing:

The woods
Like Gentle Heart

Accept us unconditionally

Allow us to simply return from our mental illness of Human Doing
- return to Human Being

For the woods comfort us
That we still exist and flow in joy
Even when we suspend
(For brief interlude)
All that fixation upon Doing
Woods show thru resonance with its heart to our natural Gentle heart

That "Being" is not void
It is harmony rhtym cycles
Vibrant in utter humility and gracefullness
(Perhaps like a little donkey- love stripped down simple and pure )

Woods gentle heart is our glimpse at Chitta nucleus potentil in each heart

I'm not sure where to post this, I found a couple threads but I am getting tired and wanted to put this out there.
I haven't meditated in a while. There is a verse in the gita where Yogananda further explains that, when a student begins to exercise in meditation with sincerity that the rousing sense army rises up in full retaliation. I think I've been experiencing this.

So my post/concern is this,
Spiritual Amnesia

How is it that we can become so easily and willingly ensnared?

I think I lack the discipline. Then I try hard and end up becoming tired or disinterested in pursuing the practice, bored even. All these things leading me back to spiritual amnesia and back to craving the discipline I once exercised. I know life has ebb and flow and perhaps a reason to meditate is to lessen the extremes of these ups and downs and to keep ourselves from becoming forgetful of our greater desires.

Yesterday I had the longest dejavu I've experienced in a while.
Usually, the dejavu is a brief moment in recognizing that I've been here in this moment before. Yesterday this feeling lasted for 3 minutes as I recognized it and then proceeded to walk along my route with a friend, everything I was witnessing had been witnessed before. It was very surreal.

You perplex me Eric you have these beautiful spiritual and psychic experiences but then you write things like this;

I'm not sure where to post this, I found a couple threads but I am getting tired and wanted to put this out there.

How is it you would be disinterested or bored when given such wonderful experiences? You do not seem to see the connection between your practice and these episodes. While Other people sit by reading in envy you complain about being uninspired. Hmmmm

What inspires me to meditate is seeing others who have the ability to find calm in any given moment. I am sure it is from their practice with meditation. I also meditate with the hopes of keeping myself alert, that is, from slipping into this spiritual amnesia but so far am not successful. The pull of life manages to sweep me off my feet either way. My mind has proven feeble many times. I don't think any of us are immune from the ensnaring effects of spiritual amnesia or maya. This isn't a complaint as much as it is an addition to your original post and a reaching out for help recognizing that boredom and restlessness are things we all grapple with in our pursuit for progress.
Again, I am reminded of the very real psychological battle we all face as described in GTWA by Yogananda.
It could be months or years before we wake back up and ask ourselves, what happened? There's 101 reasons/rationale greater than my own that will try to pull me away from my internal resolutions, I am learning and practicing how not to give in to those because it is possible to serve without compromising our well being. It's easy to fall back on wanting to please our ego without realizing that's what those sense-rousing pulls are trying to do and after much suffering we later realize this is not the essence of happiness we had hoped to find, even if there is momentary satisfaction. I appreciate you trying to get me to see it from your perspective, I don't think any one should feel envious because they are getting lost in comparing without realizing the many blessings happening in their own lives. Another trap perhaps. We're here to help each other, not become consumed by what we feel we are owed. I am just at times discouraged by how easy it is to fall down now days... Thanks for trying to lift me back up Bro.

Eric just happened to look at your chart today. Because of the strong pull from you and your energies. I will put what I found under your chart in the astrology section for natal charts. I believe it relates to some of the issues you’ve discussed in this thread and your discouragement.

All your observations are important to me and though you have been inspirational to me in your gifts I suppose it could be considered envious. I’ll have to look into myself for a behavior flaw on that one. It is important to realize that God speaks to us through our divine friendships and helps us see a mirror of ourselves to make appropriate behavior adjustments for our spiritual growth. Yea I have met many people on the internet and elsewhere who feel they should be owed something. Isn’t that something my friend! Perhaps it is being shown to me for a reason.  Without reflection and introspection it is difficult to make much progress no matter how much we practice meditating.

Have you ever noticed though that sometimes this inertia and boredom is caused by an internal guidance causing us to have a break for reflection and understanding of the meaning of events in our life?

I suppose. I guess I am being asked to learn to find peace from nothing, to be content with my situation and friction in life and to pursue a little self-control.

Well my advice is not the best; there is nothing stranger than being ourselves and experiencing it as real in this cosmic comedy. Perhaps Beatrice can give you a scarecrow reading from the cornfield.

Why Meditation?

Sometimes I have to go back to the beginning. Sure I know all these things, but we can know to eat properly, exercise, follow safety rules and practice any discipline we choose...but still have lapses in practice. Thankfully even a reminder like someone today asking me; “Why do you meditate?” helps me get back on track. God can use anyone he chooses to remind us and inspire us and does so when necessary.
