a heart breaking moment today, on the way to a shoe outlet i saw a very large female hawk laying in the middle of the road with her eyes half opened. she looked tired and injured. i was exiting one highway and entering another, the merging highways worked in that they conjoined above the road by at least 20 feet. there was no shoulder to pull over and by the time i noticed the bird i had just swerved out of its way. i was going at least 65-70mph and there was a car behind me riding close. thinking back i don't think it would have been wise of me to throw my hazards on and risk an accident. unfortunately there were no quick turn around options either. the nearest exit was over a mile away and there was no opposite lane, just a narrow one way ramp for merging in which the bird was laying in the middle of. the car behind me missed it but there were even more cars coming... the poor bird, it breaks my heart... i am saddened i didn't try more, to go back and take her off the road. i've done nothing before and watched a bird killed because of it...  please pray for this poor and beautiful animal... it's important we try.... i tried calling the local game warden and animal rescue but received no help... it's important we take matters into our own hands... today i missed an opportunity to serve a creature a chance at life... on the way back, a different route, i saw an owl dead on the side of the road.

steve, given your past occupation- i wonder how often you've encountered injured wildlife. the rescue shelter gave me the number to our game warden saying it's a road hazard but the warden did not answer or have a voice mail set up. i will have to make more of an effort next time...

Trump who self proclaimed himself the deal maker and the he alone could solve American problems has turned out to be the worst deal maker the U.S. has ever seen - plunging the United States into the worst closure of government in this country’s history and forcing government workers into extreme hardship.

Donald Trump was elected president partly by assuring the American people that “I alone can fix it.”

But precisely two years into his presidency, the government is not simply broken — it is in crisis, and Trump is grappling with the reality that he cannot fix it alone.

To treat every human being as a shrine of God is to fulfill all religion.

Bowl of Saki, January 20, by Hazrat Inayat Khan

This is something I believe in but find difficulty in being able to live up to every day. Maybe it's because for most, those who've raised us do not always consider the indwelling spirit in them to be God. Maybe it's because the idea's of how this expression "should be" have been romanticized and brought about expectations and suffering. Then there's the habits we've knowingly, unknowingly embraced or demonstrated over the course of our lives that step on beauty. It's important we continue to try, even if our efforts are misinterpreted by others or that we do fall short- continue to aim high and continue to meditate. Knowing we are born in limitation, persistence towards the ideal is the best we can hope for, returning more and more to Stillness...

I am also going to quote Lahiri Mahasaya here...
“Always remember that you belong to no one, and no one belongs to you. Reflect that some day you will suddenly have to leave everything in this world so make the acquaintanceship of God now. Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception. Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles. Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. Cease being a prisoner of the body; using the secret key of Kriya, learn to escape into Spirit.”

Yes all of us who meditate can remember times we have been near the ocean and smelt the mist from the salt water or being near a stream and smelling the dampness in the cool air. Or, being In a forest smelling the sap of the trees. And, being near fliers blossoming, the Aroma enticing us into settling down. The smell of not so natural aromas like incense also affect our meditations.
