Question:

Just a thought...

If the Yugas are somehow related to the course of our planet + solar system through the galaxy/universe, does that mean we could (hypothetically) reach some point in space that is in Treta or Satya Yuga by interstellar travel? And if we did, would it effect our consciousness at all, or do the higher states of consciousness common in the higher ages require the slow process of physical evolution generation through generation?

The answer to this is that Paramahansa Yogananda said there are higher and lower souls even in the higher and lower ages. Generally speaking we are born into a time and place that befits our karmic background. We are also brought to a place that coincides with our spiritual effort and present consciousness. There are places and people on this earth today that resemble the higher ages and there are also places and people who resemble the lower ages. We have the ability to be in these places despite the present age of the world in general. I have been in both of these places in my life and found that some people are receptive to the people and places and others are not. Some people act noble even when surrounded by horrible situations. (Christ and his disciples)

Paramahansa Yogananda has said that we can be 'sent a thousand Christs but unless we change ourselves it will not help us'. However he also said that if we want to be a certain way we should surround ourselves with those kind of people. Environment is stronger then will power. I have found just by being at certain places you feel uplifted. Master has even said; 'If you meditate here i will shower blessings on you.' (speaking of the Temple of Leaves) So being in higher or lower times and places would affect us as well. We can even see this take place as various planets make aspects to our natal chart.

Pronams to u squirrel. We r presently in the Dwapara Yuga; a time of rapid change and we r beginning to understand the inner energies as we recognize that matter itself is condensed energy. Generalizations are very seldom definitive. They r just used to get a grasp on what this life and time frames relating to it are all about.

Age = Yuga = Epoch = Era

The theory is that en-masse (as a society across the globe) the Son of Man (Human) is influenced by the workings of Nature.  Yes, there will always be those ahead and behind the "Age", as there are those above and below the average salary wages, etc.   But the focus is on the overall mass consciousness of the world.

The Greek Philosopher Plato called this cylce the Golden Year.  Composed of Ages (Lowest ** Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold ** Highest ** Gold, Silver, Bronze, Iron ** Lowest).

The Ancient Rishis (Seers) of India called this cycle the Yugas (epoch or era).   (Lowest ** Kali, Dwapara, Treta, Satya ** Highest ** Satya, Treta, Dwapara, Kali ** Lowest).

Both stated this was a 24,000 year cycle, and also point to observations of the Precession of the Equinoxes (and other observable phenomena) that move on a 24,000 year cycle.

Our modern world view (especially western world which has spread), is that Man has evolved in a "linear evolutionary" fashion (largely arriving from Darwin -- or should we say Huxley who poplarized portions of Darwin's observations)... from being a dumb creature who could barely survive the elements 8,000 or fewer years ago, to our current state of being smart and able to conquer and provide for our needs.   This modern western "linear evolution" view seems suspect as a bit of mental illness on our part -- as we form this opinion without much evidence, and in spite of continuing archaelogy extending our view that ancient cultures were vast and capable of providing for their people in both food, shelter, clothing, and spiritually.

The lenses from which we view our "evolution" or "progression" or "cycle" seem to be colored filters...   we are very stuck on the concept that "Technological Materialism" equates to an advanced culture.   Yet we increasingly see that our "technology" is very haphazard... a double edged sword.   For we manipulate crops to yield more, and then make it so that it's seeds are sterile, and even kill butterflies that come along.   We have electronics that do not have a fully thought out life-cycle, so proper disposal is not known or convenient, and they end up putting heavy metals and such in our water.    We are so reliant on mass farms, mass transport of food... few have ever even tried to grow food from a seed.

So are we (en-masse) any more advanced, any more civilized than an aboriginal tribe that lives in smaller numbers, that has children in numbers such that their population growth is sustainable...   the aboriginals live in harmony with the land they reside, and do not take more than the land can give.   They love, they eat, they have stories and legends, they have education.

I understand we are not all intended to live as the aboriginal in the rain forest or in Australian outback, etc.   But we need to consider that just because a society does not have electric appliances does not mean they do not have technology, or that they are less "evolved".   In many ways, a simpler, sustainable lifestyle may be a sign of higher spiritual evolution ?

*********
in lower ages, it is a general truth that we will (by Nature) plod along in the manner of the age, and do more "bad things" than in the higher Ages...
 viewing the past without having much information -- our history is sket

I agree.... To find out less is more, is an interesting concept. I have found that to have more money-especially to keep it and not to do something good in the world-it becomes more of a burden then something that sets you free.
