i had a music student who invited me to a Christian Meditation. We read a passage in the bible and then sat in silence for about 20 minutes and meditated on that phrase. After wards we expressed our personal revelations about what we had read. i honestly felt very blissful during some of those fellowships.

That sounds most wonderful. Smiley

It is unfortunate when certain Christians believe they are nurturing a relationship with God and finding truth just by reading words from a book.

I think that stopping to be still and look inside ourselves is how the meaning in the Gospel is truly found.

Recently i was fortunate to play music at a Unity Church in Muskegon Michigan and was somewhat surprised that they have a short meditation during their service and the Rev. Diane Stark told me that meditation is part of the Unity Tradition.

Yes, I know of one instance where Yogananda recommended someone to attend a unity church. The account is told by Roy Davis in his book "As I knew Him".

I believe it is from AoY where Yogananda references a teacher who has his students ponder on words for hours at a time. They'd read a little bit and then meditate. Reading everything in one sitting, going to fast, it takes away from meaning, the internalization of truth and the passion/desire for God. Inayat Khan says that simply studying books and having the knowledge isn't enough, that one should feel and take a personal interest in order to Learn and Grow closer with their ideal.
