PY says that the mind constantly thinking about the body becomes limited by it. The mind meditating upon the infinite becomes unlimited. Meditation is the art of transferring the attention from finite things-the little body and the portion of space in which mortals live- to the infinite. Meditation means constantly thinking about the vastness within and without, so that the soul may forget its attachment to the limited physical body and remember its vast body as God. The little soul wave must forget its smallness, which is only a mental concept born of concentration on the body, and must concentrate upon the universe as its own big body, of which the physical body is just a tiny part.

like an ideal !

thank you steve
look at todays saki ! : )

http://wahiduddin.net/saki/saki_date.php
Quote
Commentary by Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan

An ideal is something to hope for and hold on to, and in the absence of an ideal hope has nothing to look forward to. It is the lack of idealism which accounts for the present degeneration of humanity in spite of all the progress it has made in other directions. There are many kinds of ideals: principles, virtues, objects of devotion; but the greatest and highest of all ideals is the God-ideal. And when this God-ideal upon which all other ideals are based is lost, then the very notion of ideal is ignored. Man needs many things in life, but his greatest need is an ideal.

   from  http://wahiduddin.net/mv2/IX/IX_9.htm

God is the ideal that raises mankind to the utmost reach of perfection. As man considers and judges his dealings with man in his conscience, so the real worshipper of God considers his dealings with God. If he has helped anybody, if he has been kind to anybody, if he has made sacrifices for anybody, he does not look for appreciation or return for his doing so to the people to whom he has done good; for he considers that he has done it for God, and therefore, his account is with God, not with those with whom he has dealt. He does not care even if instead of praising they blame him; for in any case he has done it for God, who is the best judge and the knower of all things.

There is no ideal that can raise the moral standard higher than the God-ideal, although love is the root of all and God is the fruit of this. Love's expansion and love's culmination and love's progress all depend upon the God-ideal. How much a man fears his friend, his neighbor, when he does something that might offend him whom he loves, whom he respects; and yet how narrow is his goodness when it is only for one person or for certain people! Imagine if he had the same consideration for God, then he would be considerate everywhere and in dealing with all people; as in a verse of a Sufi which says, 'Everywhere I go I find Thy sacred dwelling-place; and whichever side I look I see Thy beautiful face, my Beloved.'

healthy mind = healthy body ?
why completely forget the body if its what you've been given and are experiencing life in ?
why does PY want to forget ?
or is it phrased that way to reveal and recognize scale

Ego causes various toxins, impurities or heavy matters (malas) to accumulate in the chitta nadi and inhibit its flow These toxins derive from wrongly digested food, impressions and associations, from wrong diet, wrong use of the senses, and wrong relationships. Hence the flow through the chitta nadi is affected by the condition of the body, prana and mind. Chitta nadi is connected to all the channel systems of the physical and subtle bodies.

There's no need to "completely forget" about the body.  That could pretty much only be possible via death or a coma.

Consider the phrasing used in Steve's post: "the mind constantly thinking about the body becomes limited by it"

If we convince ourselves that we are nothing more than our physical body and that there is nothing beyond physical limits of time-space, then as a result of free will and attraction we must "play by our own rules", and therefore we will be limited only as far as we limit ourselves.

When we consider that we are dual-beings and have "spiritual" body as well as physical, then we can begin to understand that the mortal body is a mere vehicle for the soul with which to move around in time-space.  And when we consider that there is infinite beyond time-space, we allow ourselves to extend our mind and lives far beyond the limits of that "vehicle" we call a body.

Thus, the physical, mental, and spiritual body are connected.  You can not single out one and neglect the other, for they follow each other.  Taking care of the body, being healthy, etc. can still be considered part of mental health and spiritual health as well, and when you think this way you also free yourself of physical limits.  You can easily alter your DNA and strengthen the body with spiritual mind.

The problem is only when one forgets that the body is connected to mind and spirit.  That is what I believe PY refers to as "the mind constantly thinking about the body becomes limited by it".

True Lucky It is fortunate when u find someone that u love and and can express love thru the physical body but it is important to realize that we even limit our conceptions of love when we get too wrapped up in physical expression. Isn't it beautiful when two bodies merge physically and even more when they can merge their energies. Finally when they can expand their love to include everyone around them and the universe as well. That is why i like meditating with those i love and those that love me. i will never forget the physical expression of love that Amma gives in her embrace. Her darshan. It is possible to convey spiritual energy even thru the physical.

the mergence of two souls/energies.....is one-der-full,,,it is beyond words.  actually....it is mergence of three,,,the two souls and god.  body mergence is one-der-full also.... but the mergence of energies i mentioned ,,,,is 'beyond' any body mergence....

Well Anne; U r talking about energies. When we think of enlightenment that concept is beyond energies. Now we r talking about such things as Christ Consciousness where the body becomes identified with the universe and everything in it. Yet even higher is cosmic consciousness where the physical body would only be used as a kind of reference point for others to identify with but not the consciousness that inhabits it.

That consciousness that inhabits the body has no identification with that body. That consciousness is free from that body and sees that body as light. Yogananda said that he had killed Yogananda a long time ago. When Eric asks questions like this:

healthy mind = healthy body ?
why completely forget the body if its what you've been given and are experiencing life in ?
why does PY want to forget ?
or is it phrased that way to reveal and recognize scale
im confused !

He is not taking into account that an enlightened being is beyond experiencing him or herself as a body. They do not need to forget the body because the body is not something they have any identity with. They do not experience themselves as having an identity with the body but rather as expressing consciousness through the body which they have forgotten and why would they want to remember it if they were experiencing something much more greater? That is they r one with spirit and bliss.

There r many things higher then thinking about fleas. Their presence goes ignored when we rise to a higher calling. We manifest what we think cosmic squirrel.
