GTWA, pp. 488-489

"...Any human being, in whatever circumstance of life, is empowered to make this "sensory sacrifice" to the Lord. The grandest purpose of life (contrary to the implications of novelists) is not to know human love or to produce children or to win men's fickle acclaim; man's sole worthwhile aim is to find the everlasting bliss of God....

Yes Anne but often we do not see that others care for us by maintaining a distance so that we do not enable our friends and people to go on doing harm to themselves and others. We can be seen as giving silent consent to a unworthy causes if we do not take a stand. Sometimes we get a very clear picture of our friends spinning their wheels in tired worn out situations. It is better at this time to help them by leaving them alone rather then spinning wheels with them. Human love and the Gurus love can go undetected when we keep set in a path that does not benefit our spiritual aspirations.

some view a glass as half full....some view a glass as half empty.  all depends on the viewer, where the consciousness lies...lays.

to me...everything....every action....has Reason....all beneficial,,,whether we know it or not.

no right....no wrong.  it is...just the way it is.

some may view my life as suffering....others may not.  some view life negatively...others may view positively...

soul enters body in order to will.....learn to use the will in order to get back to god again....

everything,,,,every action.....leads to god.  therefore....everything is beneficial....

Somethings r more beneficial then others and some r more harmful then others and some people work at relationships and some work against them.

You can say walking in the path of a car is beneficial if u would like but we must also use our discrimination in all matters. To justify all actions is to rationalize and to make excuses for ourselves. But we cannot fool everyone.

This world is full of duality we r either going towards the light or we r going away from it. Some cooperate with right actions others consent to wrong ones by doing nothing when action is called for. This is a weakness and shows a lack of courage and conviction. It makes us puppets to fate and ultimately leads to our demise. There is very little gain without some sacrifice.

There r times in life where we come to a pivot point and we can see two ways at the crossroads. Sometimes there is no more road ahead because we have come to the end of the present road and we choose our fate by turning either right or left. We must take one or the other. 'Cross her and you will see' only a cliff and doom ahead. If we stay and never make a decision we will stagnate. If we go to the left we leave what was in the past behind if we go to the right we carry with us all our past. The choice is ours either way we gain something and loose something every day. This is a given. The choice is ours.

Once you climb the realms of highness, there is no good and bad, as rightly yoshi said.

Every thought, word, and action brings you closer to God. So, there can be no good or bad experiences, in view of the inner 'kuru-kshetra'.

There is only one reason, we are all going through 'this'. Some name it as 'religion', which means re-union, others call it 'yoga' for the same intent. Realization of our true Spiritual nature is meant.

Quote
'Conscious realization of humanity’s unity with Spirit is the goal of life and, consciously or unconsciously, every person tries to advance towards that end.'

So relax, and be happy my friend...  Smiley

Much love, o.

be happy....happy happy happy happy and content...no matter what circumstances in life we find ourselves in   Cheesy

consciousness' search for god....consciousness' search for it's true nature....to realign 'its' will with gods will.... <3<3<3    that,,,,is what 'life' is allllll about....

sometimes while still 'asleep' (aka view life thru avidya)  we think we find what it is we are looking for....through material things...through work/career....through mates....etc    yet,,,,we still feel a need to search after we obtain these things, we feel un-fulfilled.....yes ?  sometimes we dull the non-fulfillment of this search through drugs/alcohol/work/hobbies......we seek through body fulfillment.

what is it that soul seeks......

Love...which includes Happiness...Compassion...Understanding.....returned Love unto soul....True Love.....

LoveLoveLoveLoveLoveLoveLoveLove

who is it that offers True Love to us ...that can give it to us ?

God.

is God 'obtainable' ?   oh yes.......

why does God not seem obtainable ?   'cause we deny....we deny God thru avidya.  avidya says, "it is too good to be true".  avidya says..."only Masters like jesus can speak to and hear God".  avidya says..."we are bodies".    avidya says..."you can find love through material things only".

how does one break free from this avidya....by our will.

Patanjali begins his Yoga Sutras with the definition of yoga as "the neutralization of the alternating waves in consciousness" (chitta vritti nirodha—I:2). -- Read more: http://yogananda.com.au/patanjali/yoga_sutras01.html

Introduction
The Bhagavad Gita is described as the knowledge of the cosmos. Yogananda says, "Wherever one is on the way back to God, the Gita will shed its light on that segment of the journey."

The Bhagavad Gita translates to, Song of the Spirit and is considered Hindu's holy testament. A pantheistic doctrine meaning God is everything.
"We came from God and our ultimate destiny is to return to Him." -Paramhansa Yogananda

GTWA is the teaching of Spirit through the soul.

Sannyasa: renouncer of egoity ingrained through ignorance within the physical self of man.

Avidya: ignorance.

Samadhi: reuinion with Cosmic Dreamer(God) through ecstatic yoga meditation.

Maya: "Magical Measurer" Making One appear as many. Nature is an evolute of Singular Reality.

Supreme Being: ever-existing, ever-conscious, ever-new Bliss.

Rishi: God-realized living scripture.

------

The beauty of GTWA is that the wisdom comes from Yogananda, the disciple of Sri Yukteswar. Sri Yukteswar learned form Lahiri Mahasaya who learned from Mahavatar Babji(The Deathless Guru) who was at one with Krishna in Spirit.

From, "A New Reveleation of the Bhagavad Gita for the Modern World"
"Swami Sri Yukteswar, Lahiri Mahasaya and Mahavatar Babahi- are rishis of this present age, masters who themselves are God-realized living scriptures."

More later...

In this book we're told Asana(right posture) supports the ability to invoke divine life energy in preparation for the practice of life-force control. Life-force being the link between matter and Spirit. I found myself the other night invoking Asana during meditation and felt the importance of an erect spine with which i was able to envision the channeling of energy running up and down. The book goes on to teach us that Asana pacifies body-bound tendencies toward laziness, restlessness, and flesh attachments.

Today I wonder what Vital celibacy means to anyone reading this book and what the benefits of it are?

"Great determination of will is required to win this first inner psychological battle to keep the concentration steady and interiorized. The devotee will be aided in this if he recognizes the intimate interrelation of the four factors of mind, breath, vital essence, and bodily life energy. When any one of the four factors is disturbed, the other three are also automatically disturbed, as is the case when the ego consciousness revives the senses by disrupting the calmness of breathlessness.

The devotee, therefore, who aspires to develop steadily in spirituality must calm the mind by practice of the right techniques of concentration, must keep the breath quiet by pranayama and proper breathing exercises; must preserve the vital essence (generally the most abused of the senses) by self-control and by seeking only the company of good people; and must free the body from restlessness and aimless motions by conscious control of the life force, and by keeping the body in good health and training it by discipline to sit absolutely still in meditation."

Emphasis on concentration, awareness and the realities of opposing forces like restlessness, discipline, good company, good health, proper techniques and continued pursuit in overall calmness.

When browsing the index for vital essence I could not find much more information. I suppose pranayama or 'proper techniques' are something taught once initiated into Kriya Yoga?

Encouragement from Yogananda Verse 17 page 622

" He who with proper regularity eats, relaxes, works, sleeps and remains awake will find yoga the destroyer of suffering.

The Yogi should be temperate in all his habits. This stanza points out that the novice yogi should not try to continue unbrokenly in meditation (with the exception of a few hours of sleep), thus ignoring the performance of good outward actions. It is unnatural- indeed, impossible- for a beginner in the path of yoga to remain in the super-conscious state of ecstasy alternated only by sleep and not also by proper activities ordained by God and Nature.

...By "regularity in work" the yogi is instructed to perform faithfully the divine action of meditation, along with the temperate performance of dutiful actions ordained by God and Nature - those that contribute to his own welfare and salvation; and also those that help to bring other true seekers to the path of God, less by his words than by his example.

...When a novice yogi tries continuously to remain in ecstasy and to perform no good outward works, he is unable to do so, and he is also unsuccessful in destroying his mortal karma The yogi who is not lazy and who performs both divine and worldly duties to please both God and man burns out his seeds of karma. By mastery over outer activities, transforming their material nature by divine thoughts, the yogi attains liberation and the permanent destruction of all causes of suffering."

A humbling reminder, for the novice I am, that life is Balance. That spirituality is a human experience- embracing both the laws of nature and the pursuit of God, creating from ones own experience a path to peace.

"Attunement with God as Aum lifts the consciousness to the immanent Christ Consciousness. Through Christ Consciousness the yogi ascends to Cosmic Consciousness in the highest cerebral center. 'No man cometh unto the Father(Cosmic Consciousness), but by me(through the Son, or Christ Consciousness).' These states of the 'Holy Trinity' are symbolized in Hindu scriptures as Aum, Tat, Sat- Holy Ghost vibration, Kutastha, and God."
