thoughts are things. we become what we think. we create what we are. the people and everything around us are a result of our thoughts. it is important to watch what we think and to balance the thoughts that release within us. when we watch the dailies we become very aware of our thoughts. they become the headlines of our lives. it is difficult to control our thoughts. but being aware of them is the first step in monitoring them.

the second step is meditation. because in meditation we learn to release and let go of our thoughts. we no longer become our thoughts but become something deeper than thoughts. we become connected with our soul instead of our thoughts. without meditation we are caught in the ceaseless dance of thoughts. meditation is the only escape from the prison of our thoughts. it helps us turn off our thoughts. what else can do this? that is why Amma has told us that meditation is more precious than gold.

hello Jitendra!

Why would we want to turn off our thoughts?

Do thoughts not promote analytical thinking??? How else were you able to share your deeper desires here?Huh?

Love you my friend.

Ty for these post...

hello Jitendra!

Love you my friend.

Ty for these post...

Until u go into the earth and search for diamonds and coal it is only conjecture that it is there. There r plenty of activities to be involved with on the surface of the earth. However u cannot get the oil unless u go underneath. Likewise u can talk and think and analyze about the brain and its thoughts but until u shut them off u will not know what is underneath those thoughts. Living in analytical thinking is only one dimension and leaves us very cold and calculating if we r unable to get beyond the facet of thoughts.  Unless we experience what is beyond thought; how else will we be able to share our deeper experiences of bliss? Analytical thinking and sharing desires are only one facet of the totality of human consciousness-very limited indeed-and extremely unbalanced if they r experienced to the exclusion of other states of consciousness. Because of a lack of experience in meditation and a lack of faith in the process most people live most of their lives in their heads and emotions never experiencing anything beyond these tremendous self imposed limitations.

Unless u believe someone when they say that there is gold in a certain mine that they have found u will not go there to see if it is there. If they show you the gold they have found your faith in them increases. Likewise until u have found someone that exhibits the bliss and happiness u r looking for u will not believe that u can also have it. Once u have met such a person though.... your faith increases. When they tell u that u too can have it if u practice meditation you are more likely to believe that possibility. If someone says "Just follow this map and go to the place where u find on the map and you will find gold" and you do it and then find gold... your faith in that person will increase radically. Like wise if a true guru gives u a road map to happiness and bliss and following it you find that you too are experiencing  happiness and bliss at various times.... your faith and belief in that person increases exponentially.

If on the other hand u find this gold and come back and say 'even though i found some gold it was just coincidence and i have no faith or belief that you can tell me where some more of that gold is located'. Do you think that that person will suggest where you may find more? Would you help them further? No u would not and they will not. Because your faith and belief in them and what they have already showed them is lacking and they know that because of that lack of faith and belief you are capable of treachery and lying about the good fortune u have been given.

forgive my naive nature.....

OK, so thoughts we want to turn off....

but emotion??? thoughts and emotion are separate, so we are trained to believe....

but thoughts help tame emotion and meditation helps tap into a deeper level of feeling beyond the "normal" grasp of thought or emotion . . . Huh??

still, it is a feeling being tapped into, is an emotion..... ?? ? there is a benefit to a silent mind

but still, i am confused....

i believe emotion, animal instinct.... these are integral aspects of growth to be cherished, not shunned out...

thoughts only help foster evolution.. .

i don't doubt thoughts can create chaos... i'm not trying to attack...

i just think, to cut this aspect of ourselves does not promote enlightenment

especially when that enlightenment people are trying to reach SEEM to stem from feeling or emotion outside a regular grasp of day to day living

We have to look at where emotion stems from. It stems from thoughts. We become emotional about something we at one time or another have thought about. What is there to b emotional about if there is nothing there to cognize with thought processes? Emotions also stem from thoughts generated deep in the past many times forgotten. Yet when we have no thoughts at all we experience bliss. Whereas thoughts and emotions have a causal relationship bliss is beyond and can be felt independent of thought and emotions. While it is true that meditation can help us tune into different levels of thought and emotion it is also true that meditation can help us experience states of consciousness beyond thought and emotions.

Thoughts can help tame emotion however thoughts can also create emotions. We do not cut ✂ out thoughts permanently by meditating but rather we gain the ability to have more control of thought and our thoughts become different as a result of being able to control thoughts rather then letting thoughts control us.

Eric animal instincts, thoughts and emotions are an integral aspect of learning as u said. There are also aspects of learning and experiences beyond emotions, thoughts and animal instincts.

It is important to realize that we think and feel in ways that reaffirm the reality we experience but not necessarily the reality that an enlightened being experiences.

Though i do not know.... i doubt that any masters start off enlightened. Yet there is the possibility that we have fallen from some great state of awareness. Some people speak of it this way. It is more likely that we work ourselves upward thru many millions of incarnations from the sleeping mineral kingdom to the unconscious insect and plant kingdom, to the instinctive animal kingdom and finally the awakening human kingdom. We r here as observers of a large drama created by divine order as we gradually awaken to our divine role and purpose in this unfolding story we r watching called life.

And God replied to me,
"So, you want to KNOW what I am ?   Let me show you..."
(and so began the dance)

Is it it difficult to describe the dance Scotty? Thanks for sharing. For myself most discoveries of what God is comes as my thoughts slow down or stop. However sometimes the joy and bliss of meditation percolates upward into daily activities. It is always nice to express that joy and bliss of meditation in our encounters with other human beings and in the wakening state and activities of life. i suppose that is the example of Amma; To see her in this state while serving others. When u and i get together i have felt that joy in our friendship.

i can agree with that and through these, millions of incarnations it feels like we're still so small... just in the beginning stages
