If you use your mind to study reality, you won't understand either your mind or reality. If you study reality without using your mind, you'll understand both.

You can't know your real mind as long as you deceive yourself.

Elfun what i am hearing from you today is simply amazing. The mind goes in circles it can not transcend its own boundaries. One has to go beyond mind. We are trapped in our own delusions when we use our mind only. The question is how do we transcend mind? Mind has it's own boundaries. Our reasoning goes in circles like a record it cannot jump out of its own grooves.

Mind likes to break things up into truth/ lies
rite/wrong  black/white  Life seldom works out
that way. Human beings are much more complex
in their behavoirs.  We are challenged to use our
discrimination when faced with many possibilities.
Words are at best an approximation of truth and
spiritual reality.

thank you for bumping this thread and thank you elfun for posting this quote. i didn't really understand it the first time around but now, your thread has really come to life and has helped me detach from my reality just enough for me to find strength and encouragement in these words. just enough to keep moving forward in a positive direction. i don't know Bodhidharma but what a wise man he must be.
there is enough fuel for spiritual healing here in the written word section to probably help me with just about anything and so again, thank you elfun.
and thank you to jitendra and namaste2all for their further insights

Hello Namaste2All and Eric and anyone interested:

You mention how the mind gets stuck in a groove and that this is the monkey mind. Yet there is something more far reaching here Namaste2All associated with your reflections.......that i see happening. It is what i have mentioned in the post just proceding this. It is true that the mind gets stuck. It often cannot find the solution to problems sent to us via the universes lessons. It is the tool we have used for so long to solve life's challenges. Yet there are so many life challenges: various people and situations come in our lives that we are not able to make any purpose or sense out of. At these times our minds reel on and get stuck as you have said.

These are times when the manas mind has to be let go and the buddhi mind  needs activation. We take ourselves out of these repetitious grooves by meditating and praying for understanding. Suddenly, at some point  we find ourselves free and moving on in a new and higher direction. We get intuitive flashes of why ......we have been stuck and we no longer let people and situations imprison us in the past and its events. We may even have an understanding of why we were not able to communicate or be with someone we wanted to be with. Life often has a higher purpose for us. Being receptive to this  purpose is like facing an unkown future. We are often unable to do this because we are so caught up in past and present life stories that keep us stuck. Yet eventually in this labarynth we find that one corridor which opens up to all kinds of new and unseen before possibilities.

one could also look at as soul vs ego.

no need to go into which is which.

we need to be careful of the words we use...buddhi mind is not good either.

(from Bing)
There are Four Functions of Mind:
Manas = sensory, processing mind
Chitta = storage of impressions
Ahamkara = "I-maker" or Ego (2 Egos)
Buddhi = knows, decides, judges, and discriminates

soul consciousness or ego consciousness.

those listed above come from ego...or body consciousness.

soul is a direct spark of god and god does not judge...discriminate.   however...soul does know and decide, intellect does think that it knows and it does decide.

so all four listed above are from EGO.

description of soul.  soul acts from Love...Compassion...Understanding...puts it's feet in others' shoes ...it's knowing and it's decisions come from Compassion...Understanding...putting its feet in anothers shoes.... Cheesy Wink....

namaste to you Eric thanks for your wonderful observations. you always have such a positive attitude about anything that seems to come into your life.  and you help us all realize that it is all good. It is a challenge to stay positive. we are grateful to have people around like you to remind us. Life and circumstances are full of ups and downs. some friends will walk out the lows and highs with us. we can be very grateful for that. for those who have left we can enjoy the time we had together. there is a comforting thought. that is we will all meet together again sometime somewhere somehow.
