                                                     The Poverty of a Religion

God of both the old and new testament is certainly an extraordinary figure but not what he purports to represent.
He is all that is good , noble, fatherly, beautiful, elevated, sentimental-true! But the world consists of something else besides. And what is left over is ascribed to the devil, this entire slice of world, this entire half is suppressed
and hushed up. In the exactly the same way they praise God as the father of all life but simply refuse to say
a word about our sexual life on what it is all based, describing it whenever posssible as sinful, the work of the devil. I have no objection to worshiping this God Jehovah, far from it. But I mean we ought to consider everything sacred, the entire world, not merely this artificially separated half! Thus alongside the divine service we should also have a service for the devil. I feel that would be right. Otherwise you must create for yourself a God that contains the devil too and in front of which you needn't close your eyes when the most natural things in the world take place.

For instance, we have to struggle with drives that are stronger than any other which are considered forbidden. The Greeks and many other people on the other hand elevated this drive and made it divine and celebrated it at great feasts. What is forbidden, in other words, is not something  eternal. It can change. Anyone can sleep with a man or woman as soon as he's been to Pastor with her or him and has married them. Yet other races do it differently even nowadays. That is why  each one of us has to find out for himself or herself what is permitted and what is forbidden for themselves. It is possible for one never to transgress a single law and still be a bastard and vice a versa. Actually it's only a question of convenience. Those who are too lazy and comfortable to think for themselves and be their own judges obey the laws. Others sense  their own laws within them; things that are forbidden to them that every honorable man will do any day in the year and other things are allowed to them that are generally despised. Each person must stand on his/her own feet.

The problem with a law is that of enforcing it. One can enforce anything but not be qualified to pass judgement in this manner. This has been a consisitent flaw we see in the testimony of history both personal and in a worldly sense.

What about the spirit of a law and its original intention? What works in one case does not always hold true in another. The highest law is that of love. If we do things with love, true love, we stand above man made laws. We are in the eternal realm of Gods closely guided plan which is awakening in our hearts. What is true at one time may not be at another and what is law today may not apply to tomorrow's circumstances. It is a matter of attunement to our highest purpose. We should not supress what is another half us to abide by man made laws. All will be eventually revealed as we open up to what is inside of us and face our fears and passions with no shame but a loving attitude
and understanding in our self and thus in others and there struggles as well. Always being considerate of the space others are in and sensitive to their needs desires and values. For those who judge; judgement will be pronounced. We continue to grow in our relationship to the divine and less and less pass judgement on the struggles of others as we know far too well our own.

Well now we have seen the people who obey the laws and in the name of religion and its laws  continue to spread hate and war and follow the laws of the Koran and the Bible. What progress has it made us in spiritual terms? We have gotten in a larger heap of trouble with ourselves and the world because we and they have followed a different set of laws. We would be better off to unite the devilish and Godly elements rather then worshiping a God who represents only half of the world. We ought to be able to worship the whole world. We have been given a God that represents only one arbitrarily separated part of the world.

I don't mean that you should do everything that pops into your head. No. But you shouldn't harm and drive away those ideas that make good sense by exorcising them or moralizing about them.
Instead of crucifying yourself or someone else you can drink wine from a chalice and contemplate the mystery of the sacrifice. Even without such procedures you can treat your drives and so called temptations with respect and love. Then they will reveal their meaning-and they all do have meaning. If you happen to think of something truly mad and sinful again, if you want to kill someone or want to commit some enormity. Think that it is the other half of religion that is not available to us. The part that I spoke of before. The unspeakable for most Christians. But the person you want to do away with is of course never Mr. or Mrs. X but merely a disguise. If you hate
a person, you hate something in him or her that is part of yourself. What isn't part of ourselves does not disturb us.

In other words; The darkside, the devil, the shadow. It is all still a part of our larger self. Something to be integrated and not denied or to be in denial.
