i think one of the reasons we did not make such a big thing about 'famous' musicians and thier songs on this forum is that we are inundated with these things on radio play and in the media. Alternative types of music can sometimes go unknown and unrecognized. This holds true of art and dance also. There are many talented people out there who go unnoticed. Take for example 'Into Blue' and her art. Very few people outside of the spiritual forums and her circle of friends know about her. Yet her talent could easily make her 'famous' i would say the same thing for 'Eastward in Eden'. So it is nice for instance to have a place to support artists who would/could be recognized. It is nice to have this our goal. If you have poetry or art that you would like to contribute we would appreciate it.

Speaking of unknown & unrecognized musical talent, those who have not heard Steve sing and his music, do not know what they are missing !! I wish I could shout it from the rooftops to let the world know of his talent and his beautiful songs.

With the grace of God and Guru, Steve's music and songs flow in perfect harmony, spiritually speaking to the heart and the soul.  He is amazing in his musical abilities and yet is humble in acknowledging this. Steve, I wish you unlimited happiness and success in all your musical ventures .

always,
Into Blue

Music is universal and so is God. God is in everything. Sometimes we write music about nature. If we recognize the presence of God there we are singing about God. Sometimes we write music about friends. If we recognize God's presence there we are making music to God. It is an important to be aware of; i concur with you about that prabha. There is much more to music then singing a simple chant that has Gods' name in it over and over. But this too is an important way of developing devotion.

There is an interesting story of Tansen (the court musician of great moghul king Akbar).

Tansen was  a great musician who knew Deepak raga and Malhar Raga. He used to quote and praise his Master and the King once wished to meet his master. Tansen was not happy with the proposal and tried to refuse it. The King become more curious and hear the music of Guru of Tansen. They somehow visited the master musician who was living in a cottage. Akbar took  some expensive perfumes for the master.
They met him. Akbar was expecting something to hear for him. But the master said he sings for himself.
He took the perfume offered by Akbar and poured on the ground saying" I don't need these expensive things" and told Tansen to visit some temple. Akbar was furious but somehow managed himself. When they returned and visited the temple the whole temple was giving the fragrance of Akbar's expensive perfume.

Prabhat i like your story it is memorable. It seems as though the musician was enlightened and was challenging the King's ego. That is the message i recieved from this story. What do you have to say of its meaning? It appears as though his 'fragrance' went much further that just the expression of music.

Yes! The master was enlighted one and teaching the king humility as he was proud of his gifts.

One can reach GOD through music.
Pranams to Prabhatsinha. Amma has asked: When we ask a musician where does his/her music come from? If they answer; from the heart. We can open the heart but we will not find music there. Likewise a musician may say music comes from the hands or from the throat. Yet we do not find music there either. So where does it come from? It comes from the 'abode of pure consciousness; God is where music comes from.'

hi steve!
Pranam to you.
In bhakti (devotion)music is important and leads to realization.
In sufi  qwaals sing praise of God and prophet and leads  the listeners to higher consciousness.
I attended  some of the meetings(URS) and felt very good.
There  is one devotee of  earlier  times named Narsi mehta singing bhajans  of Krishna. And Krishna has to appear  in    his life
and take  care of him. Mahatma Gandhi was very  fond of one of his bhajan " vaishnav  jan to  tene kahiye".

Pranams to Prabhat i have found the bhajans that r sang at Amma's visits here r most uplifting. The words parallel life experiences and call to God for relief from the three fold suffering of body mind and soul that we continue to face while in mortal consciousness. Every once in a while we experience true happiness and r challenge is to b in that state at all times. This thought is with me most of my waking hours.
