if we can discipline ourselves enough to embrace all that happens as neither good or bad
how then can we understand a joyous event without being numb to it
i like thinking of things as beautiful but read this by lao tzu
“When people see some things as beautiful,
other things become ugly.
When people see some things as good,
other things become bad.”
~Lao Tzu
here is an article form zenhabits saying nothing is good or bad
http://zenhabits.net/light/but i want beauty and goodness
i'm confused
To the enlghtened mind there is not the division
of good and bad, beautiful and ugly. There
is no duality. Everything is perfect and how
it should be.
As we begin to have spiritual lessons in life;
We often find that those things we thought
to be beautiful are not and those things
we thought to be ugly are in fact beautiful;
We then begin to recognize the perversion
of the mind in it's judgements and when
we begin the process of realization, judgement
falls away and everthing is joyess. Sorrow
and ugliness have little meaning when we
practice evenmindness and live in the awareness
that transcends such arbitrary divisions.
Seeing people having all kinds of views
as to what is beautiful and ugly, bad and good
awakens us to the awareness that these are
judgements of the mind and delusions of
the ego.
Beauty and goodness r cultivated in the begining
but after some depth of attainment, they too
r seen as impediments to future attainment.
All is well that ends well so the saying goes.
We can go to a movie and say that an actor
that played an evil role was good and we
can also see a film with many ugly scenes
and say that film was beautifully done.
And so it is with life.
Thanks for sharing the link. The article was helpful.
