I think the Saint/Sage Sees all moments and phenomena in this way. It is a reminder of the divine nature of existence and of our interconnectedness with all of Life, I think.
Today, I was passing some homeless people asking for money in the cold. I thought of how it is near Christmas and how they must be getting more help than usual, maybe. I didn't have the chance to give any change, because of the timing of my car, and more shamefully, I did not "want" to give change today, I wanted to get home to post things on eBay to sell to make money to buy presents for my family, which isn't so bad I guess...
As I was looking at these homeless brothers in cold, about to make a turn onto the highway feeder, my homeless friend in North Carolina called. He told me he was in a bad way (he is a serious alcoholic) and went to the detox center in Asheville to check himself in, and they told him they were full and can't take him in until tomorrow. He was worried he might die waiting to go in, because he had no money and if he didn't buy a beer, he would start to detox on the street, and his alcohol addiction is so bad now that that could kill him, if he is not under medical supervision.
He's never asked me for money before, but he asked if I could send him $10 to help him make it to tomorrow, so I did.
This was quite a synchronicity. I love my friend Aidan, and I hope he recovers, though he is convinced might be in a cycle like this the rest of his life... I hope he does find a way out.
Another synchronicity of sorts, Aidan had an incredible good fortune to get to tell his story on a podcast when he was in Oregon. 10,000s of people have heard his story of traveling the country homelessly the past 4 years, though he doesn't mention his battle with alcohol addiction. It's a great interview if you'd like to hear it, follow this link:
