I used to like going to CNN or other news sites, and just keep up on stuff. Like North Korea, world news, the missing plane, but there's all kinds of news that is thrown at you. Lady gaga, Miley Cyrus, etc.,

It's just mostly bad news, or news about people.

There's hardly ever positive news, or "good" news, or spiritual news, or enlightening news. I know why it happens, I know what sells.

But you know you read about the missing plane, think about the people that might have been scared going down that way. Or there was a mudslide in my area, 30 still missing. This kind of news is hard to ignore, and I wonder if I should continue to read about it. Is it helping me spiritually?

No, it's not helping you spiritually. I don't understand why people feel the need to stay "informed" with all of this stuff. I don't know where this got put into people's minds that they need to "keep up with the news". So many things happen everyday, who can keep up it all? The news stations can't even keep up with it all. I would say examine what things on the news are are part of your "circle of influence"? You will find very little of it. How much of it contributes to the major purpose of your life? Very little. How much of it makes you a better neighbor or friend? Do you go door to door and demand to know what is going on in your neighbors lives? Are they doing okay? Etc. News is nothing but glorified gossip.

The news stations that have all been consolidated into 5 separate corporations now, are a major bug in human consciousness. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I'm just saying they are idiots.

It's funny that you bring this topic up, though. The last couple of days I keep thinking about how I would like to create a newspaper or something called "the good news". There are so many uplifting, beautiful and good things that happen that don't get reported. People are forced to dwell on negativity so much that they start to think along those lines and therefore manifest more of that in their own lives.

I am not saying people should only hear lies. People have to know the truth. And the truth is that there is a lot more beauty and goodness in the world than the news stations let onto. And the truth is that when people are made to think along such negative lines all the time it effects the way people see the world and, in turn, helps to manifest more negative news stories.

And those god damned suits...

Maybe you should have a top level forum for good news.

The other issue I'm having with bad news is, just today I go thumbing thru my sons' history book, first thing I see is vietnam war photos, self-immolation photos, actual bomb photos, etc., What in the world does he need to know about this for, in this detail? So he can pass the required tests. Is it good for him? Was it good for me when I saw it years ago? I guess if you aren't versed in this stuff around the water cooler, you'll be ridiculed or simply labeled.

I've never really liked the way this works.

For me personally and for many or most young people at the time it was very important to see such pictures. It was very important for us to know that the south Vietnam government was a dictatorship. It was important to know that the south Vietnam goverment put 30 thousand Buddhist  monks in man holes under the street with no trials. It was important to talk to pilots that said they dropped their napalm bombs indiscrimately on civilians and children. It was important to know and meet sailors that said their mission was to find oil off the coast of Vietnam Nam. It was important to know that our national guard murdered students at Kent State and repressed others demonstrating against the war. It was important to know just how sick our country was with greed and corporate interests. It was important to know that the United States had its nose in other people's business around the world.

It was important to realize that many of us, including myself were not going to go there and we would go to prison or another country before supporting corporate global interests. It was important to recognize what young people can do to stop the aggressive capitalistic or evil intentions of a nation. It was important to see soldiers that came back that were never mentally right again. Why? Because these type of wars were not for noble causes but to support our rich peoples interests in other countries. Just as we were wrong to fight for the South in the Civil War so we were wrong to fight in Vietnam Nam and many other dictatorial and oppressive countries we have supported in the past.

Now if your son learns anything from the atrocities we committed I would be grateful. Someone I knew went to Vietnam Nam recently. I asked them what the people thought of us there. She said that the best way to describe it was from someone there that said: "We beat the big bully." Let us never forget what low levels a nation can fall to.

There is a deeper meaning though to all this. Quite often we are exposed to events that happened in the past because we ourselves have played a part in them. Often those events carry over into the present life with similar lessons. This has been my experience. We often need to retrace our stories from the past to get a grasp of what lessons they have brought us in our spiritual development. For instance my experiences with the Civil War and The Viet Nam War have developed my courage. Courage to face a nation that has made tragic mistakes and courage to stand up for what is truth. Not what a mentally ill country has told you to do.

I meant no disrespect, of course we all need to know the importance and significance of events such as these.

I guess my point was more of how negative media can affect us, especially when our minds are young.

There is evil in those photos that can pierce the subconsciousness. For a young mind, I'm not sure what the effects might be in individual cases. Eventually we all must see the truths, however, is it not our job as parents and guardians to protect against evil? There is a time when the mind is old enough to discriminate properly, I admit I'm not very good at determining when that is for another soul. Better safe than sorry is all I got.

One very positive thing you could do is to keep uplifting photographs of saints around your home in big frames and put flowers or burn incense in front of them. Let him see the veneration you have for these people and their vibrations will permeate your home.

Then no pictures he sees in school will be a problem to him. The truth is that there is no age when these things no longer affect you. Looking at violence and enjoying it or becoming desensitized to it is problematic at all ages. If you cultivate loving attitudes in your home, though, your sons consciousness will attune to that. There will be no need to keep him censored from things. On the contrary, those things will drive him ever toward truth.

yes i would agree with what your saying. I was 18 when I faced the draft. Very young. So I needed to know what it was all about. As you know there are two sides to every story. I do not spend to much time with the news these days. Just trying to make a better world by praying for others and myself. But then some of us are faced with world events that affect our personal lives and we would like to think we live in a country that shows concern for other nations and does not use them for their own purposes.

Spiritimage

What interests me more than the photos is your interest in WWll. I became friends with a nazi pilot from WWll. He told me some interesting stories. It is fascinating... when we meditate... people and places from the past come out into our lives and revisit us... as if the story is not yet complete...but those people, places and events often have meaning and contribute to our souls recognition and learning.
