The holiday, which is celebrated every year on the final Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War

I know that memorial day recognizes the men and women who died in American Wars. However, i wonder about believing you were one of them? I believe that about myself. This puts an interesting twist on things because I am very much alive. I am glad to be here now to celebrate.

So I want to celebrate the many people that have died from my life because regardless if they have literally died or only figuratively; they played an important part in my life and how can one ever forget those we love. It is only when we have hardened our heart does this occur. Today I am going to a near by park and give thanks to all the wonderful people that have touched my life with their love and friendship.

Happy you could find something good in it. There are a lot of people and situations that come back like reoccurring dreams. Sometimes this time around we have to let them go because we have a different mission appointed to us. It is through these memories we are often propelled to a new set of desires and accomplishments. Recognizing the reasons that takes those close to us away, does not take away the love we feel for them. But often looking back too much can turn us into a pillar of salt.

The narrative of Lot's wife begins in Genesis 19 after two angels arrived in Sodom, at eventide, and were invited to spend the night at Lot's home. As dawn was breaking, Lot's visiting angels urged him to get his family and flee, so as to avoid being caught in the impending disaster for the iniquity of the city. Lot delayed, so the angels took hold of his hand, his wife's hand and his daughters and brought them out of the city. The command was given, "Flee for your life! Do not look behind you, nor stop anywhere in the Plain; flee to the hills, lest you be swept away."[1] Lot objected to the idea of fleeing to the hills and requested safe haven at a little town nearby. The request was granted and the town became known as Zoar. Traveling behind her husband, Lot's wife looked back, and was turned into a pillar of salt.[2]

In Judaism, one common view of Lot's wife turning to salt was as punishment for disobeying the angels' warning. By looking back at the "evil cities" she betrayed her secret longing for that way of life. She was deemed unworthy to be saved and thus turned to a pillar of salt.[8]

Pillar of salt. Perhaps there is some meaning to it. Why of all things, a pillar of salt? To me, what comes to mind is a statue. The same way that we carve statues of people, although we don't use salt blocks to do it (I don't think). Perhaps in their time salt blocks were used for statuary.

The person who looks back always never lives now. He is frozen in time. He is a living monument to his own past. But one thing is for sure, he is not present. He has ceased to be living now. He lives yesterday.

Quote
"I don't live today. Maybe tomorrow, I just can't say." - Jimi Hendrix

Quote
The Hebrew for pillar is natsiyb, which refers to...something set to watch over something else. - www.gotquestions.org

We must not stand as a watchman over yesterday. We must not become a living monument to what has passed. Life is now. Yesterday exists only as a thought in your mind NOW.

Religions got caught in worshiping the past. When that sacred moment that we worship took place then it took place NOW.

Your comments are always helpful Brock. I am not sure how they apply to me personally but I often think you are trying to help us all... to keep our attention in the present and the beauty and magnificence of what is unfolding around us.

It is interesting to me as a 'musician'.... It is hard for me to separate the music from the man (or woman).
I often hear all kinds of stories about what musicians did from other musicians who played with them. The picture is not always pleasant. It seems that fame has a way (in many or most cases) of increasing ignorance (avidiya).

The wind is blowin' and in many ways we are still runnin' against the wind.
