Although i have never heard Paramahansa Yogananda say anything bad, disparaging, incriminating or against Gay marriage i understand that his description of partnership included man and woman.

"The spiritual marriage consists in woman, or feeling, uniting with the knowledge of God-created man or masculine force, and thus becoming one in Spirit."

"Reason are expressed in different bodies. It can be said man represents God, and woman represents Nature. These two are equal in divine expression. In man (positive pole) reason is predominant and feeling subjective. In woman (negative pole) feeling is predominant and reason subjective."

"In the original plan of creation, man and woman, ideal soul mates, were to lead a heavenly life by keeping their minds in the heavenly region of bliss - will in the forehead."

~Paramahansa Yogananada

Not taking sides here, but back in his day marriage between any other but man & woman was probably not discussed like it is today.

So he's probably also not even thinking about any other kind of marriage except between man & woman, just wasn't hot like it is now.

Funny how society as a whole can influence even the greatest thinkers. Wonder if that's simply peer pressure.

Agree. Jesus even fed the masses with fish. Would he have done it today while I'm seeing gurus feeding vegetarian food to their devotees?

Another aspect:

Gay people would object that a man with the sexual orientation of a woman is basically a woman, so Yoganandaji's words would hold true anyhow.

But apparently this is not the interpretation of the SRF monks and nuns (gay marraiges are not celebrated).

I believe that Yogananda today would not approve gay marriages. He was not intolerant of gays and some of his disciples were gay ones, but a gay monk is something which is coherent with a spiritual path, whereas a gay marriage is something which may be not.

But it's possible Yogananda today would be swayed by all the arguments that many others have done. Never can tell.

Sometimes just a carefully worded statement is all it takes, then it's hard to argue.

Much like a very good attorney. Masters of contradiction.
