Steve, now I understand you are against the obnoxious presentation of the Bible as carried out by some religious groups.

In your description I see the Jehova's witnesses in Italy. They pedantically cite verses of the bible and everything must bend to the book. that's preposterous, if all groups in America behave that way I'm afraid that such a situation can only boost atheism.

The bible by itself though is just another body of religious writings, which should be intepreted only by spiritually evolved beings.

So pls allow me this suggestion, you should not criticize the bible, you should just criticize the religious zealots, who are imposing their views of such scripture on anyone.

It's totally out of doubt that Yogananda's lessons are far superior to the bible and any other classic religious writings, because they are practical and they provide practical methods for the spiritual advancement which are concealed within the other writings.

Another tricky issue is the 'weird' parts of the bible, especially so the old testament. They are weird, granted, but I do not worry too much about it. To argue with the zealots is wasted time, and to discuss about the weird passages of the bible maybe is not so constructive.

It is a scary thought; to have a book with so many contradictions being used as a guideline for living. It is even more frightening to have people that can not and will not use any other spiritual references except the Clone Book.  But this is a drect influence of conditioning and brainwashing in Cloneland.

You speak about any other way of looking at spirituality and all they can do with their one dimensional minds is refer back to the Clone Book. The standard and only religious book for Cloneland.

Mccoy i do not criticize the Bible but the people who put it together. Just like, I do not criticize Democracy but the people who practice it. We are all imperfect people and I for one recognize this about myself. So i hold myself responsible for the democracy I have created. I just wish that people who call themselves Christians would recognize that they themselves created what has become the Clonebook: The know all. The be all. The panacea for. The answer to everything: The Clonebook.

I agree with you.

But (always a but), there are some people who follow the Bible, and I don't think they are all going down the wrong road. Sure some of them are, but so are some people who follow other teachings as well.

I'm not so sure I would blame it on a book, rather, the way each one of us is allowed to perceive it.

Curiously, I have been listening to a Calvary Church pastor in the morning as I drive to work (well there's no Yogananda stations on so what can I do), and he's been going thru book of Genesis for quite some time now, chapter by chapter. I don't know the book that well, but I have learned some things while listening, and, he's quite good at trying to give meaning to Genesis. He has on occasion dissed Hinduism (which is not PY teaching IMO), and he sounded like he just didn't know enough about it to comment. But he does have very good points. Sure there are some real flakes out there, but I'm not sure they can all be categorized as a group.

I feel the same way about things I just don't understand. But maybe we should not question the way God does what He does, because I think you will create problems for yourself if you try too hard to do that.

Steve, I still cannot share your significant acrimony against the bible, although I agree that it has unignorable limitations

I respect your interest in it. I do not see it as any acrimony except that many, many, many Christians have wasted spiritual time in which I /they  could have been meditating when instead that time was wasted on debating the Bible and converting me. I see this as nothing less then what you call the acts of the devil trying to keep us in the mind stirred up and in constant turmoil and imprisoned in kali yuga religion with no time to liberate ourselves in the fresh air of modern spiritual literature and influences.

It took me years to realize what was really happening. The subtle  ways of maya and the devil find no better place to ferment and cause strife then in the minds and documents of spiritual seekers.

I'm still a little confused.

We all have different paths to God, and those paths are ultimately given to us by God.

If some people's paths are with the Bible, how can that be called an act of the devil?

It would seem to me that if a person has his mind stirred up it is not thru the medium of the path, but thru his own mistakes that then brings about the devil, regardless of what book he reads, or if someone is talking to him about a book.

You are completely correct that is why I no longer listen to those trying to convert me. It is not my path. But they seem to think it is! It is a mistake to have others tell us what path is best for us. Especially if u have your path and have not asked. It can cause friction. You may have missed an important point spiritimage. I was not trying to convert them but if you disagree with these type of people many of them believe you are trying to convert them.

No I read you right, I didn't think you were trying to convert them.

I can't really disagree with those kinds of people, since I'm not well versed enough to talk a convincing side.

So I usually say something entirely off subject, (and most times for some reason I throw in rudeness), just to get them to shut up and then they'll leave me alone.

I believe that whatever slows your evolution down is a demonic suggestion. The devil suggests to those people that reading the bible and trying to convert other people will gain them the heavens. So they go on indiscriminately  (and sometiems obnoxiously) trying to convert other people, instead than praying and seeking inspiration in meditation and introspection.

That's a pretty subtle suggestion, but that it is. Spiritual oneupmanship. A believer in the Bible is necessarily better than a believer. A believer who can convert unbelievers is one notch higher up.

Satan is smart, San Padre Pio wrote that Satan sometimes manifested to himself in visions disguised as Jesus, the Virgin Mary and other saints.
