I'm aware now that I was identifying Vishnunabhi as the galactic center according to the interpretations of Frawley. Opposing views state that the difference in the distance from the galactic center at the aphelion-perielion points (referred to Sagittarius A*) would be negligible in the large scale context.

Yes, I retort, but then the same would apply to whatsoever other location assumed to be Vishnunabhi.
Unless Vishnunabhi is a metaphysical center and has no correspondence in the physical dimension.

Sri Yukteswar speaks of closeness and distance from a 'grand center'. He does not explain the characteristics of the center nor its whereabouts except to imply that when our solar systems path gets closer to our dual star we are also closer to this grand center. The Vishnunabhi is this grand center and it is doubtful that it has anything to do with the center of our galaxy, since that was not mentioned in the Master's explanation.... but rather our relationship to the dual star that he talks about and our relationship to that star in its movement around the galaxy. This does not sound like a fixed point but rather a moving energy that corresponds to the relationship of two binary stars moving thru the galaxy.

We should keep in mind that our Sun and solar system is in constant motion through the galaxy. The only plausible constant is the center of the galaxy (which is in motion with other galaxies) in relation to us. However it was already stated that are distance in movement from the center of the galaxy is negligible in a 24,000 year cycle. We are at present; in a perpetual dance with a star because of the precession of the equinoxes. A basic understanding of Astrology helps us recognize the influence of the planets and near by objects on our everyday life. Think of what the influence of nearby stars may also have.

This is my take on an evolving explanation of the universes influence on our mortal lives. i say evolving because very few of us can give with certainty the answers to such questions. We are mostly dealing with possibilities that may end up as probabilities. We often find this to be the case in human relationships as well which is why very few of us should take absolute stands on issues we cannot resolve with certainty.

i doubt that any of us expect Sri Yukteswar to be a scientist as well as a guru. The information he did give us in the Holy Science was quite helpful though and it remains one of my favorite books of all time.

Yes

i saw this on the internet;

David Frawley

David Frawley is a Westerner who has become a scholar of Vedic scriptures, Jyotish (Indian astrology), and Ayurveda (Indian medicine). He has written a number of books on various aspects of Vedic culture and wisdom.

Like Yogananda, Frawley adopts Yukteswar's 24,000 year maha yuga and views it as a smaller cycle within the larger maha yugas described traditionally. Frawley likewise introduces some twists in the way he interprets both the smaller and the larger cycle.

With regard to the 24,000 year cycle, Frawley begins like Yukteswar by ascribing the cycle to the sun's revolution around a companion star. Frawley says that this revolution varies the amount of cosmic light we receive from the galactic center. Thus, he seems to have identified Yukteswar's Vishnunabhi with the center of the galaxy, which Yukteswar never explicitly does. Still, it is a plausible interpretation.

Unfortunately, a 24,000 year orbit would make only a negligible difference in our sun's distance from the galactic center, which is at a vast remove from us. Presumably because of this, Frawley abandons Yukteswar's notion that it is our varying distance from Vishnunabhi that causes the cycles of yugas. Instead, he posits that our companion star is a dark star, and when it passes between us and Vishnunabhi, tends to eclipse some of the cosmic light from that source, thus causing the decline into the less inspired ages like Kali Yuga.

mccoy

your interest in David Fraley also gave me an interest in him. i was looking for information on the great sage Manu who Sri Yukteswar mentions in the Holy Science. It appears as though Sri Yukteswar gained his knowledge of the Yugas through the writings of Manu or at least corroborated his own knowledge with the writings of Manu.

From this article i found these paragraphs to be most intriguing:

"Besides the light from our own Sun, we also receive light from the center of the galaxy, the galactic Sun. Much of the light of this greater"Sun, however, is not in visible frequencies. Some astronomers have suspected a central galactic light, like that of a quasar, whose light may be obscured by dust or nebulae in the region of the galactic center. According to Vedic astrology, the light from this galactic source has a special influence upon Earth. It nourishes and sustains intelligence in human beings. This is not the materialistic intellect but true intelligence, the capacity to perceive the real or divine spirit in things and act according to the Divine Will.

When the Sun is located on the side of its orbit where its dark companion comes between it and the galactic center, the reception of the cosmic light is reduced. At such times there is a dark or materialistic age on Earth. When the Sun is on the opposite side of its orbit and has an open reception to the light of the galactic Sun, there is a golden or spiritual age on Earth. Humanity then acts in harmony with cosmic intelligence and with Divine powers that are its functionaries and emissaries. The Sun’s dark companion appears to possess a negative magnetic field that obstructs the cosmic light from the galactic center from reaching the Earth. Through this it creates cycles of advance and decline in human civilization."

We can ascertain from reading these two paragraphs that Vishnunabhi is clearly synonymous with the galactic center. As we can see it matters little that our proximity to the Galactic Center is negligible in a 24,000 year period. What is more important, however, is the obscuring nature of our 'dark companion'. This magnetic field he speaks of that obstructs the light would be an important answer to the unexplained challenges to the procession of the equinoxes being caused by our Suns movement through space and not the conventional view that the earth wobbles.

The Star Vega or Abhijit

"Vedic astrology regards the North Pole as the spiritual pole of the globe from which higher spiritual influences come into the planet. However, the North Pole star does not remain the same throughout the precessional cycle. At the opposite side of the precessional cycle, the point of greatest light, the bright star Vega (alpha Lyra) serves to mark the North Pole. Vega is part of a special constellation which is used in Vedic astrology and which is called Abhijit or “complete victory;” it is ruled by Brahma, the cosmic creative power.

Vedic astrology shows a connection between our sun and the star Vega. Vega may be a controlling star for our Sun, its guide; or perhaps our Sun may revolve around it or with it around some greater center. Vedic astrology looks back to a time some fifteen thousand years ago when Vega was the North Pole star. Apart from the galactic center, Vega may be another important point of light that governs life on Earth."

Also known as Alpha Lyrae, Vega is located within 25.3 light-years (ly) away from our Sun, Sol, as the brightest star in Constellation Lyra, the Lyre or Harp. Its name (more correctly "Wega") is derived from the Arabic for "Swooping Eagle" ("Al Nasr al Waki"). The star is the lower right member (18:36:56.34+38:47:01.29, ICRS 2000.0) of the "Summer Triangle" of first magnitude stars viewed from the northern hemisphere, formed with Altair (Alpha Aquilae) at the lower left, and Deneb (Alpha Cygni) at upper right. This zero-magnitude star is visible with the naked eye as the third brightest star after Sirius A and Arcturus in Earth's northern skies, and is fifth brightest star overall. Due to the slowly changing orientation of Earth's axis in space (which is also known as the Precession of the Equinoxes), Vega was the North Celestial Pole Star some 12,000 years ago and will be again in another 10,000 years.

This highlighted area corresponds in time to the Golden age; the satya yuga.

The dark dual of sun (sunB) could be a neutron star or a black hole. It would alter by relativistic effects, the beam of light-radiations emanating from the grand center (hypotethically, Sagittarius A* at the galaxy hub).

The same relativistic effect could exist in the astral dimension, where the spiritual, astral light of the grand center would be distorted and counteracted by the astral mass of sun B.

After reading Frawley i concur with you as I have already said: We can ascertain from reading these two paragraphs (see Frawleys' quotes above) that Vishnunabhi is synonymous with the galactic center (hypotethically, Sagittarius A* at the galaxy hub" ~mccoy). we can see it matters little that our proximity to the Galactic Center is negligible in a 24,000 year period. What is more important, however, is the obscuring nature of our 'dark companion' Because it obscures the galactic center in Sagittarius. This magnetic field he speaks of that obstructs the light would be an important answer to the unexplained challenges to the procession of the equinoxes being caused by the conventional view that the earth wobbles. Frawleys' view (above) is the best explanation, so far..... for me. Although it may not be an accurate one, or a final explanatiion.

Steve, in the context of SY's equinoctial precession model Frawley's word can make sense, although it is too vague and generic and not at all substantiated when he speaks about the light from the galactic center and the hypotheses of some (unspecified) astronomers:

Quote
Besides the light from our own Sun, we also receive light from the center of the galaxy, the galactic Sun.

But, although the center of our galaxy is supposed to be a black hole, sagittarius A*, it is not a quasar according to astromomy. Quasaras by the way are extremely luminous objects. Our galaxy may become a quasar if the milky way is going to collide with Andromeda in the remote future.

I recognize the influence of the main lights in our solar system - The Sun because of its size and the Moon because of its closeness. Considering the importance of these objects in Astrology... it just seems like the center of the galaxy with all its power and light would have a strong effect on us.

Uwe here is our thread on David Frawley. These links you provided on a separate thread may also be helpful. For some unknown reason the links I provided here no longer exist. Mccoy and I had an interesting interchange here about David, it would be nice to have you join in!

The subject fascinates me and is brought up several times since the inception of this site in 2008. One notable example is a thread on Tara Mata.
