Recently i saw the avatar Amma. She spoke for over and hour on the environment of Mother Earth saying that it was the number one concern of earth today. She outlined various strategies for 'saving' our planet. Teaming up and drive sharing, planting trees, recycling and various ways of planting food that do not involve GMO's and dangerous pesticides. Seeing such a great saint in person talk so passionately about the Planet as being a live entity of its own that reacts to damage and mistreatment of human beings made me doubly aware of how important it is to get information out like this so people can take steps to improve our environment among other things.

Amma stressed today the importance of employing a spiritual approach in checking global warming, cautioning countries across the world about the ill-effects of humanity’s continuing deeds against nature.

Nature Care

“The creation and the Creator are not two,” Amma constantly reminds us. It is this principle that informs and motivates the various environmental programs and ‘green initiatives’ of Amma’s Ashram. For when we see Mother Nature as the embodiment of God, we will automatically serve and protect her.

“Ignoring the current environmental situation is like a man on the top floor of flats being indifferent to the fire on the ground floor,” she said in the video message sent to the Summit of Conscience for the Climate in Paris. Read complete speech >

“Even if we have only a tiny plot of land, we should try to grow a few vegetables using organic fertilizers. Spending some time with our plants, we should talk to them and kiss them. This relationship will give us a new vitality.” – Amma

“Nature is our first mother,” Amma says. “She nurtures us throughout our lives. Our birth mother may allow us to sit on her lap for a couple of years, but Mother Nature patiently bears our weight our entire life. Just as a child is obligated to his birth mother, we should all feel an obligation and responsibility towards Mother Nature. If we forget this responsibility, it is equal to forgetting our own self. If we forget Nature, we will cease to exist, for to do so is to walk towards death.”.

I meant *stories* that continue to bombard the mind, spend more time trying to pull out the relevance and applicable info than actual applying.

I really try to avoid internet news. You simply end up thinking about stuff that's likely better off not thinking about. Too much false, one-sided opinions.

Many times you never hear "the rest of the story".

i propose a new breed of Alfred Hitchcock scarecrows to ward off unwanted internet horror so that we can re-present: https://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?id=Afbae9fac9033a66a58cccfca4c341b19&w=182&h=183&c=7&rs=1&qlt=90&pid=3.1&rm=2

I have prepared one of my own [timecapsules]. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder, and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like.

Well that certainly veered off in a direction that defies any logic I can come up with.

The question one asks themselves is this: Do diversionary tactics really accomplish very much and are they sometimes a useful tool in discussion?

Yes, if you're deliberately trying to antagonize someone, it can work well, and if you're good at it, they don't even know you're doing it on purpose.  Grin

Your words flow like waves and ripples over my convoluted cortex and then pour down into a pool of joyous laughter; they do not antagonize anything they are accepted for the joy of having a playful friend.

The issue of land is a serious one, although America has vast deserts, in those wild stretches wind turbines and solar power plants are both feasible.
Actually, I remind I saw my first large field of wind turbines in the Palm Springs desert in 1991.

Photovoltaic cells can be installed upon roofs without taking up land. They are still on the expensive side though.

i know exactly where you are referring to mccoy i drove thru there on a regular basis while driving a semi to Phoenix Arizona: It is Interstate 10 called the San Bernardino Freeway out that way. It stretches from California to Florida. It is quite an open area where you are referring to but who would want to live in that kind of heat? Day in and day out. You can see where it it is most desirable to live just look at the population accumulations. It is quite awesome to see all those wind turbines out in the dessert. Were u heading for Jashua Tree and Twenty Nine Palms?

Steve, I do remember the heat in August, although I was there a 2nd time in March and it was pretty enjoyable, it was a cool March.

Aeolic plants like that generate electric power which can be distributed thru the main grids, so I believe the distance is not a main factor.

Private photovoltaic panels may be used to drive air conditioners in very hot areas, so that you may have a very cool house with zero cost, except of course the initial costs of material and installation. If you are able to install a 6 kW house plant plus accumulators, you can be totally autonomous and use solar energy 24 hours with zero electricity expense. Again, in desert areas you can retrieve the initial expense in a relatively short time. I was thinking about doing something like that in my house but retrofitting and house thermal insulation so far has been more expensive than foresaw. I'm probably limiting myself to water-heating solar panels, which are also very good when there is lots of sun in every season.

I was there for one day after the SRF convocation, I was just curious to see the desert and Palm Springs, no spiritual places as goals.

Five islands disappear in the Pacific due to rising sea levels and coastal erosion.

I am from Garter Strap Florida. So far I have been knee deep in trouble but I can 'see' troubled waters coming up to my garter straps!

A lady from Florida started to come to Italy pretty regularly to work. She told me that the first time she crossed the peninsula she was shocked to see mountain peaks 15000 feet high and over. She thought Italy was like Florida, with max elevation in its most inland-located place at about 240 feet.
