With any techniques of meditation we will encounter challenges. It seems to me to be important  to openly acknowledge these challenges and find helpful suggestions and possible solutions with other devotees so I opened this thread to that aim.

The hong sau technique has always had its challenges for me. I had an insight tonite. It is much better to practice mantras associated with the breath at nite or some very quiet time when the breath is more audible and you are more conscious of it slowing down.

One important fact of wisdom I have gained from Paramahansa Yogananda that has always stayed with me over the years. Many times he has mentioned that nothing can be done without an act of will. Even in moving our arm up and down we will it to happen. With this in mind, there is an act of will involved in the practice of the energization exercises. We have to activate our will power to practice them regularly otherwise it will not happen. Inertia is a constant challenge to our spiritual unfoldment and physical well being.

I have however found an important stimulation to practice; water. Water stimulates and refreshes the nerves and invigorates the body making us more motivated to practice and so does fresh air.

Cold water and fresh air are at the base of natural medicine.

Like you say, they stimulate prana which stimulates various nervous responses of the body, increasing vitality, the apana function which eliminates body toxins.
At 16, I healed myself of a cronic cold and sub optimal health by proper diet, exercise and cold water, cold air applications.

One of the main difficulties I have found with kriya: It is difficult to focus snd visualize energy in the spine. One practice that helps: Do the kriyas right upon awakening. Before energizing. Before om or Hong Sau. Go to the bathroom if it is necessary then start into the kriyas.

The consciousness  is interiorized from sleep and it is easier to be on the inside instead of in exterior awareness.

The om technique has the same distinction that 'jyoti' mudra has in practice: are we hearing it or really seeing it? Sometime you may just put your om board in place and notice that inner ear sound is quite loud and then you may find your mind working and the volume decreases. This to me is part of the om (not the mind working and creating mischief.). The om has so many sounds, that you may hear it, and write it off as a distraction. Can you believe it? At one time I heard the music of the spheres and kept thinking to myself: i'm trying to meditate. I also know a friend who told me one time she saw the spiritual eye but did not know what it was until years later she read the SRF lessons.

That reminds me of st. Padre Pio, who as a Young boy had daily visions of Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary and the saints. He was convinced it was absolutely normal and everyone saw the same things

....and people (mainly Christians) think reincarnation is a myth. If that was the case God sure plays favorites. Maybe he worked diligently to be a saint as a child. Somewhat like Mozart who picked up a violin as a child without practicing and played it.
