The nicest thing about waking up in the dead of nite is that there is not a sound around. U can here your breath. The stillness is like a different world in which u can absorb your consciousness. Everything is still. Especially the farther from civilization you are. Where i live there are not even cars active. It is the best time to sit up and meditate. To absorb yourself in the realm of spirit. To experience a world beyond restless human activity. If you are with someone.... to experience loves language of silence. To enjoy moments of total tranquility. Forever remembered. Forever treasured. Whether with God or with someone else. You can feel the silence and peace surrounding you enveloping you in love's vibration.

Lovely thoughts/images Steve.  I used to feel that same sense in the early morning hours while living in the French countryside - dawn was my favorite time for meditation.  It was special.  Even Colorado had its quiet hours after dark.

Miami doesn't have the same ambiance in the dead of night, however. The city never sleeps - never!  Constant noise day and night.  Luckily, I have ear plugs.   Smiley

In the dead of night I find myself disturbed by the noise of my mental worries, no matter the physical silence. They magnify at night, probably by hormones and chemicals related to the light-dark cycle. In the day a more pugnacious and defiant mental attitude prevails. Funny in a way.

I think that nighttime freak-out feeling is pretty common!  We've all experienced it, probavly. My theory is that in bed, in the dark, there is nothing to distract us from the worry or anxiety so it hits full force and seems bigger than it really is.   Smiley

I rarely wake up during the night.

It is most probably so, even in an indirect way. The indirect influence comes from dreams, restless dreams. It is a fact that some people like myself, as opposed to people like SI who don't wake up during the night, do wake up several times. During such inter-dreaming wakeups, we are infuenced by the dreams we were having seconds before. These dreams often reflect all the concerns experienced during daytime.

This reminds me of once when I spent the night over at a friends house. As the lights went out I laid there with an eerie, empty sort of feeling. I know it happened a lot more than just that time. This one sticks out though, because I was so aware of it. It was a sort of meaningless, ill-at-ease feeling. It wasn't that my friend was a bad host. It was angst. I was a teenager at the time.

Quite a lot of memories here and posts from people now not here or have found a different identity to explore. it all brings back good memories though. Even when the presence of friends from the past is gone... we still can remember the unique spiritual and human vibration they gave to our lives. I feel I was just woke up to be reminded of that and give thanks for all the wonderful moments I had with others. Somehow I have this faith that we will meet again if not in this present life sometime in the great beyond and sometimes people do come back into our lives in the present. We can be very grateful for such support from such spiritual friends!

I believe in holding the door for people, so it doesn't hit them on the ass on the way out!

For some people like Donald Rumpelstiltskin I believe I would knock the door down so he could leave faster! If it helped to add a kick I would do that as well. Some people do not understand politeness.

The practice is in silencing the mind, which gets louder the quieter it is. I have been blissed out and completely terrified by the splendor of God and imagining his greatness in the dead of nite. . . In the end I know I am protected, this is my saving grace. Blessed be! O great Lord, so beautiful!  Cheesy Smiley Cheesy

Complete silence envelops you in the nite. It is the language of the soul; Silence. Silence brings you inward because no distracting sounds bring you outward. All the senses motivate activity in the brain. But hearing is one of the most disturbing and distracting. If you can find a place where silence permeates the atmosphere you will start feeling peace even if your thoughts distract you. The sound of molecules bouncing off your ears is in itself interiorizing. The silence gives something to focus on; Techniques of meditation and inner sounds.

I remember going to long meditations at the Hollywood Temple of the Self-Realization Fellowship in California. The monks leading the meditation always told us to attempt to be very silent and not disturb the silence of others and the room; or the meditation of others in the room. Not even moving if possible. At times I would tune into another realm of complete bliss because of the stillness that had descended on the room. The depth of meditation of others and their silence brought the vibration of the whole room into a spiritual realm indescribable in words. It defied thoughts and words. We should recognize that not only people but places and times of day and nite have a vibration.
