Thank-u b the video brought tears to my eyes. i believe it was because Ram Dass was making an effort to speak without displaying emotion for his beloved Guru.

He (Maharajji) is reported to have said that they used to know of these medicines (not LSD but something similar probably like shrooms) in the kulu valley but the knowledge got lost.

The whole drug scene influenced me to find these experiences naturally in meditation with no side-effects.

Meditation can have side-effects too. But, yes, it sparked a movement that has influenced the culture since the 60's. It sent a lot of people to India who would bring back their experiences and beads. Ram Dass being an obvious example. In most cases meditation doesn't have nearly as dramatic an effect as psychedelics, especially not right away. You aren't guaranteed to experience anything unusual when you sit to meditate. That's especially true for someone new to it. This is quite different from shrooms or LSD. You get the experience right away, for better or worse. Some people don't seem to ever get anything out of meditation at all and perhaps those people would benefit from taking some trips in controlled circumstances. The taboo is an unfortunate demonstration of how far the long arm of propaganda can extend. I am interested in how they will start to use it (and they will) in a responsible and intelligent way. In my world, meditation and these substances don't have to be assumed mutually exclusive. But I am aware that there are people who will never be convinced that these substances weren't forged in the fires of hell, just as there are people that will never be convinced that meditation is not possession by devils. They'd probably outlaw meditation if they could. But the cause of psychedelics isn't really my battle to fight at this point. Although, if I were looking for a crusade it might be a worthy one. I have a feeling that the researchers are starting to realize it can't be ignored much longer. As Leary said, "I learned more about the mind in the 6 hours that I tripped mushrooms than all my previous years getting my psychology degree from Harvard."

Good video

Biological and substance alternating conditions may be interesting and even inspiring but can never be considered true spiritual experiences. True spiritual experiences are from spirit and not from substances. We become different people from them. We gain tremendous wisdom and act different as human beings afterwards. We treat others differently and evolve as spiritual beings from meditation and true spiritual practice. This has been my experience.

Many people have been transformed after their experiences with psychedelics. There are biologically alternating conditions in meditation as well.

Many people have been transformed after their experiences with psychedelics. There are biologically alternating conditions in meditation as well.

You can pull up the roots and look at the plant and see much but what about the plant? In the same way you can alter the biological functions of the brain but eventually, if not immediately, it starts effecting all those functions until many of the original abilities are gone. U can see this in many musicians who have used such synthetic and natural drugs and herbs. What was once great music now becomes mediocre.
