Maybe that is because of the focus involved and interiorization when solving math challenges. Then that moment of recognition that you are on to something inventive-when u have an intuitive hunch that certain math equations prove something that is revealed about the universe and our relationship to it. Where do these hunches come from-these sudden flashes of insight?

Steve, it is probably as you say, mathematics for the real mathematician is a form of art. They speak about 'elegant' equations or solutions. The great eccentric mathematician Paul Erdos (the most prolific of all, having authored over 1000 scientific articles) told about 'the book', sort of an ethereal repository of all solutions. He told clearly that when in tune with 'the book' he had the deepest mathematical insight. To be specified that Erdos was not a spiritual man, he was just a mathematical monomaniac.
