Due to his lack of access to information, he spent a lot of his time reinventing already established mathematics, and still managed to contribute to the field.

Yes, Ramanujian was a full-fledged born talent in mathematics, a natural genius. It is well known his affirmation about a supernatural origin of his insights, whispered to him by the goddes Namagiri:

Quote
Debate still lingers as to the origins of Ramanujan's
edifice of unique ideas. Mathematicians eagerly acknowledge
surprise states of intuition as the real breakthroughs, not
logical deduction.  There is reticence to accept mystical
overtones, though, like Andrews, many can appreciate
intuition *in the guise* of a Goddess. But we have
Ramanujan's own testimony of feminine whisperings from a
Devi and there is the sheer power of his achievements.
Hindus cognize this reality.

i have 'heard' those type of whispers. For instance i remember 'someone' whispering with a melody these lyrics; "Tell me what you goina do with your life? Tell me what you goina do? In one unselfish moment is one unselfish way?" As i got out of bed i picked up my 5 string banjo and continued adding to the lyrics and melody until the song was completed.

i woke up this morning tryin to keep up with the pace
One realization there's a smile on my face
We take our own journey to see what what we have found
Reach for the starlite and wind our old world down.

In one unselfish moment. In one unselfish way.
Tell me what you goina do with your life
Tell me what you goina say

The golden glow of the sunset as the day is settlin down
Let go of our worries... be carried away by the sound
i hear a train in the distance it can carry me away
Beyond all the memories i find a peaceful place

i'm sittin alone now wonderin' where i'll go
all my hours are unfamiliar roads
it all becomes clearer now
it appeared the other day
one mystical word now cleared the clouds away

In one unselfish moment. In one unselfish way.
Tell me what you goina do with your life
Tell me what you goina say

b thanks for your contribution. i listened with interest to the video you presented.

Like Ramanujan? They say he got his mathematical equations in his dreams from the goddess Namagiri.

Mathematics has always been closely linked to mysticism. I personally think the universe we perceive must be made out of mathematics.
