1. Prayer
2. Chanting
3. Techniques
4. Stillness
5. Devotion
Brother Bhaktananda outlined these different areas of meditation while he was alive. It is important to ask that God and Guru guide us in meditation so that is why we Pray. It is important to practice the Techniques correctly and with concentration. We need to chant to touch God and bring his presence to us. Stillness takes place after we have put our effort in. Now it is time to relax and let God do something for us. 'When the thoughts have gone to rest that is when i see him best.' Your mind should not be blank. Keep it focused at the spiritual eye. Lastly when we we start getting restless again practice Devotion.

Thank you Steve for posting these 5 Steps in Meditation. It is a good reminder to have the basics and the reasons for them, to help us keep our focus in meditation.

Yes i need this a lot myself so i thought it would be a good reminder to me also. i will be adding other things to each area as time goes on. For instance Master has said that we should talk in the language of our heart when we can no longer hold on to the stillness. This is Devotion.

I look forward to reading more of your posts about meditation Brother Bhaktananda has said that if you do not have devotion than pray and if you do not know how to pray and make love to God read Whispers from Eternity and Metaphysical Meditations. In these books the Guru has given us prayers and affirmations to develop devotion. So Into Blue it is time to go back to your quotes from Whispers under the books by Paramahansa Yogananda. Maybe you will offer some more for us....

It is no wonder then, that I enjoy reading the "Whispers from Eternity", I knew there was something special about that book. And I see you have just added another book to my reading list, one I haven't heard of before " Metaphysical Meditations ".
Thank you for the reminder, I will see what Yogananda is whispering today ....

Brother Bhaktananda spoke of 5 steps to meditation:
1. Prayer 2. Chanting Singing to God. 3. Meditation techniques 4. Stillness and afterwards when the mind became active again.. 5. Devotion
Of these 'Stillness' was the most important. It is simple to say but hard to do because we are always doing something. We always have cell phones gadgets computers etc. In the stillness we are not doing anything.
Our individuality has to go. We believe we are human beings. To experience the presence of God is to get out of the human or ego consciousness. If we keep meditating we arrive at a place beyond the emotions and body. Even when we say 'I Love You God" we are separated from God. It is fine to say this in prayer but we still have not reached the stillness state. We say nothing in the stillness state. We are not practicing anything. We are letting God or Divine Mother do their thing. We are still and in the presence of God. 'Be still and know that I am God'~the Bible
