I have found that my body continues to react like it does during the day during meditation in other words our daily activities completely affect our meditations. Remembering our dreams at night can also invade our meditations. We may have a job and we have to go, go, go, be here, be there, always on the run. It is difficult to settle down cause the body is conditioned to be always on the go. We may not even be doing the same job but it is still ingrained in us - a conditioning factor - so the restlessness affects us when we meditate. We may have to constantly practice relaxation exercises for the body and mind and remind the body by telling it to relax. This has been my experience.

Continued physical activity of any kind makes it very difficult to meditate. It can be drinking, smoking, sex or eating. All these desires... even the desire to be with other people. Desires lead to restlessness and therefore difficulty meditating. When we meditate they come out in our mind and motor nerves.

hi steve,

social media, television and smart phones are huge factors when it comes to being restless where apps, reminders, advertisements and the works slip into our subconscious mind

tools guised as "convenience" promoting a needier and restless mentality

i am fond of the pilgrimage you and nomaste share where the phones are *turned off*
in this city, phones serve as a functioning organ- an attachment to the human body

I hadn't thought of that one. Often when I go out in nature I leave the phone behind. I will remember that when i see Amma this fall at her retreat in Michigan!
