Recently meditation has been a study of the breath and mind for me. i have watched my breath slow down and my heart rate slow down. As calmness descends upon me the breath seems hardly existing yet what is happening in the mind? Thoughts awakened by sounds in the environment come and go. Small irritating bugs crawl on my face since the first part of my meditation is outdoors. One wonders how do i go deeper? An occasional affection from the past enters the conscious awareness as i remind myself once again i am watching the breath. Suddenly a long inhalation and exhalation then practice feeling the peace. The mind and consciousness has not gone deep enough to just experience bliss but is interiorized enough for focused pray so that is what i engage in.

i realize for me that it would be difficult to reach deeper into the inner realms with a mantra alone so i continue doing some inner spine work....bringing the energies up and down the spine with a long length of the breath-techniques that the Masters teach to help go deeper. After awhile i get up and am aware of the fact that my sense of time has slowed down. I am much less anxious and now can do some of the breathing and motion exercises, i have learned from another Master, with full attention and concentration. Later i listen to some Indian flute music and see the color yellow in my line of vision. i wonder; Is this a mental image or is it coming from some inner source. Then i remind myself it does not matter. The music is over so i get up and see yellow in round smoke signals around me. Another day of peaceful meditation. Not so inspiring as some other days but a good day and i am happy to have this time to my Self.

i remember reading Eric's recollections of his rather psychic dreams over the years as a kind of diary that he has often gone back to so i was inspired to do the same about my meditation today. i wonder if anyone  else cares to join in with their experiences or comments.

That must inspire you to practice!  It would me. i always enjoyed your dream sequences so i thought i could create my own little diary once in a while.. the nuance about mediatation is u just don't know when it will affect you. i woke up today unusually happy and musically inspired and also sensitive to the art work i saw around me in a medical center. i honestly believe that the inspiration was activated by the meditations the day before!

Thanks Eric...... steve

I am of the school that says you should drive away visions of any kind. I think they are all from an inner source, the mind. One should not give them much significance. When Papaji went to see Ramana he didn't like his advaita teaching because he was addicted to the form of Krishna. So, after meeting Ramana he went and hung out on the Mountain and entertained his visions of Krishna. Before he left he decided to stop back by Ramana's hall and brag to him about how he had been seing Krishna for the past few days. When he did so Ramana feigned interest saying, "Oho, so you've been playing with Krishna?"

Papaji: "Yes, sir".

Bhagavan: "Do you see him now?"

Papaji: "No, sir. I don't".

Bhagavan: "A God that appears and disappears cannot be the real God."

This annoyed Papaji and he didn't immediately accept this, so strong was his attachment to the form of Krishna he had worshipped all his life. It wasn't until Papaji saw Ramana look at a picture of Krishna that some villagers had brought to be blessed that he got the faith in his words which enabled him to transcend the attachment to the form.
