I have found my beliefs have changed thru the years. Some of them do not fit my current life. Beliefs are like an attitude that keeps people locked into a certain form of consciousness. Beliefs of those in political power can affect the living condition of those they represent. We can use our beliefs to help others or hinder their progress. The more we have the ability to affect the lives of others...the more we become responsible for our own beliefs and the actions that stem from those beliefs. Many times in history people who have been spiritually ignorant have shaped the lives and consciousness of the people they represent. For example the beliefs of of the 5th century emperor of Rome affected the beliefs of generations to come because of his disbelief of reincarnation. Emperor Justinian was evil in the actions he took regarding his beliefs and it was one of the most evil actions taken against spiritual understanding and religion in history. It left a feeling of guilt in the consciousness of people who were torn between the idea of heaven and hell and that they had only one life to reach heaven.

In the same way there are beliefs that shape the destiny of nations. It is important to recognize the spiritual ignorance in the mindsets of these beliefs and the evil they perpetuate on the human race. We find similar beliefs in the United States today. Leaders who refuse to research their own lives and even the research that is provided to them in an attempt to hold on to their own outdated beliefs on how to handle current realities. These beliefs are like 'sacred cows' to preserve their own state of nostalgic ignorance and mindsets. There are many people who still believe that the world is flat and that that there is no climate change despite all the evidence to the contrary. These people live in the past of their own life so called success and are unable to absorb more evolved and enlightening concepts. When such beliefs affect the lives of those around them adversely they become evil.

"Sometimes belief proves to be worse than disbelief. This is when a person, set in his belief, hinders his own progress not allowing his mind to go further into the research of life, refusing guidance and advice from another, in order that he may preserve his own belief. Thus a belief which is preserved as a virtue becomes the greatest sin."

Excerpt taken from, The Sufi Message of Hazrat Inayat Khan: The Way of Illumination.

At times in history we are called to examine the beliefs of our own in relation to those of others in our social milieu.
As an example the civil war or W.W.II at these times leaders considered themselves superior to other human beings and today we find the leaders of our nation not only believing themselves superior to other human beings but to nature herself and the warnings of mother nature. This is ego and the belief of ego over spiritual understanding. It is as though belief has been preserved in
formaldehyde like a dead body trying to preserve life in something that no longer has adaptability to present realities.
