I asked Amma what I could do to improve meditation. She replied:

When it's time for bed you lie there till you fall asleep. Sometimes we sleep right away and other times we wait there till we fall asleep. In the same way we may sit down to practice meditation and nothing seems to happen. Yet we still sit there. Just continue on in your practice as you do your sleep during the day and night.

Ironically I fall asleep very easily but it did come with practice so I believe she used the story to illustrate a personal point. I used to work four jobs at a time so I had to fall asleep instantly when I could  or be exhausted. So apparently it takes the same intensity and regularity to fall instantly into a meditative state.

Interesting answer from Amma.

I believe that God sees this life as a drop of water in a pail. We have lived countless lives and done many things. The efforts of one life may seem meaningless unless a soul is placed under the temptations and the satisfaction of desires of many lives.

Since you and I have a guru mccoy I feel it important that we ask protection against the Maya that surrounds us. We are asking to be liberated but at the same time we have desires that keep us in mortal consciousness. This meditation must become as natural and needed as sleep itself. There is really no other way out. Most people are hopelessly lost in a fantasy land.... caught in a play of weaving dreams. We are looking for the way out of this labyrinth. We have found one another to compare notes on our struggle to get out without being trapped for countless more incarnations.

I wonder, if... For some, coming to earth is not a trap. It is simply to Love.
An awakened soul can perhaps, live more consciously through the different planes and realities available to us
All while maintaining a kindled Spirit and a Love that is God.

-Just a thought.
