Yes, I think so. That's why you have no doubt heard things like no-mind, destruction of the mind, killing the mind, etc. The mind must be completely destroyed for the Self to be realized. It can be temporarily subdued, but it inevitably rises up again after its rest (causing frustration for the yogi). A thief may become a policeman during the day and convince everyone, and at night become a criminal.
