As human beings we constantly seek new experiences that give variety to our lives. The difficulty with this mindset is that it keeps the consciousness constantly stirred up with new experiences. The truth is that very few of these experiences will give happiness. The experiences we have during meditation cannot always be accomplished by providing variety in our life. We may at times find that too much variety only stirs up restlessness.

True, we should rather be selective and take up only activities which are necessary to health or survival (besides spiritual practices).

And that's enough to keep ourselves busy for hours a day...

Bottom line, in life there is no time to do everything, nor even a tenth of what we might wish to do.

What I have been finding out lately is that my interests for variety often lead to take off in the car somewhere....But what happens is that we cannot satisfy such desires all the time....Even though they may be spiritual in nature. The price of gas alone can make it prohibitive.

McCoy yes I understand what u r saying.. I was also including spiritual activity. Sometimes we seek out spiritually satisfying people or environments and the energy exerted does not always have a return. We may meet others that have there own set of challenges or spend a lot of money getting places and then have difficulty paying that money back.

However even more difficult is the fact that we may spend time with people who look for their happiness in only worldly activities. These type of people can leave us very restless and can take us out of our spiritual peace and harmony if we spend too much time with them. Being in tune with the spiritual vibrations of those friends at a physical distance like yourself is dependent upon being in tune with our inner center.

i believe it is important for me and perhaps others to recognize how much we are tied to material perceptions and environments and how the harmony of such locals often determines spiritual experience. There is, for most of us still a strong connection between material and spiritual understanding and experience. One of the next leaps we must take is to be able to connect with higher realms without the intermediary of physical variety.

True, we should rather be selective and take up only activities which are necessary to health or survival (besides spiritual practices).

And that's enough to keep ourselves busy for hours a day...

Bottom line, in life there is no time to do everything, nor even a tenth of what we might wish to do.

I can agree with the original post- sometimes getting mixed up with new or old relationships can make meditating and pursuing healthier life choices difficult. I would caution however that one should still welcome new opportunities with child like wonder and not let previously held expectations limit a new experience.
