The key to meditation is to exist completely in the here and now.

That's true. If you are meditating and hoping to attain something, to get something which you do not already have, to attain something in the future, to reach a higher state - well you can be sure that you are not meditating.

It is a paradox.

The longing for special states, to prolong them, etc. is a form of craving which creates suffering and puts you into a negative suffering state. It is a paradox.

Interesting reflection!

One time God decided to go visit this guy, but when he got to his house there was a note on the door:

"I have gone to find God, and I won't return until I've found him."

God, thinking of what an idiot he created, laughed and left.

Nicely put.

I think to suffer is to be human. I'm not saying we can never be free from suffering but it is interesting to witness one indulge themselves knowing full their actions now will create suffering later.

Maybe it is greed that causes such behaviors. When we become more and more satisfied by our experiences during meditation we find ourselves less and less in need of the indulgences of the senses.
