The birds have been out lately and it feels really nice to notice them during times I am outside working on myself or working towards stillness. My good friend the BlueJay is so vibrant... The baby sparrows bring so much joy.... I even noticed a Robyn and of course the Doves, so calming. I won't harp much on the subject but I may bump some old threads with generic pictures of these Texas birds. During my run the only birds making noise in the morning were the Crows, surprisingly. I never thought I'd be so into bird watching but I figure it's a nice hobby to pursue...

Well anyways! On the run one bird in particular stood out for its extremely vibrant red head... Usually when I think of Woodpeckers I only see a flash of red at the top of their head... Well I learned here in Texas we have Woodpeckers called Red Headed Woodpeckers ( Go figure  Cheesy )

So here's that bird since I couldn't find a thread for it:

Symbolic Meanings of the Woodpecker

Balance
Progress
Signaling
Returning
Protection
Initiation
Attention
Prophesy
Listening
Opportunity
Discernment
Communication
Determination

"When I hear the woodpecker knocking, I think of opportunity. You know the old saying "when opportunity knocks, answer the door." That's precisely what I'm driving at here.

Woodpeckers are extremely opportunistic themselves. Each tree is a door, revealing tender morsels of food (grubs and ants are their favorites). Other trees will yield against their beak-hammering to provide great mansions for their young."

As a power animal, a totem and spirit animal, woodpecker stands for strength, opportunity, wisdom, resilience, kindness, and determination. Never one to give up, it sees value in the most hopeless of things, including a dead tree and makes remarkable good come out of it.Nov 12, 2020

Had to ponder about this for awhile because I thought I found the right place to meditate yesterday on the top of the Lake Michigan Dunes where I could only hear the soft lapping of the waves below. Suddenly came this sound of hammering away. Not to pleasant for meditation. Yet, recognizing there is a a reason for things happening to us I thought because of the fact the hammering just began after I was somewhat peaceful and was very close by I should follow and understand it’s message.

In fact I’ve wondered if I would have a chance to hammer out my own beat and a friend has given it to me. So I am supported in my quest by the indications of the woodpecker coming precipitously in my life now.

I also recognize my reoccurring mission to help others in their transition to the afterlife. Which I have been drawn into once again.
…………………………………………………💙

‘Woodpecker portends happy occasions and luck. When Woodpecker flies into your dreamscape, it indicates a real-world situation where you need assistance but hasn’t reached out. If you hear the Woodpecker drumming out its song, you are about to enter a spiritually oriented time in your life, often a period dealing with magic.

Seeing Woodpecker in the woods indicates your ability to communicate about an important issue or to recognize something of vital importance you’ve overlooked. Catching Woodpecker in a dream means you need to focus on yourself and to stay true to your voice.’

I recently heard of the large woodpeckers in our area but have never seen them. Today I decided to go for a jog through the wooded bayou and on my way back I saw two amazingly large red headed, black woodpeckers. I didn't take this photo, but this is exactly what I saw.

"The Pileated Woodpecker is one of the biggest, most striking forest birds on the continent. It’s nearly the size of a crow, black with bold white stripes down the neck and a flaming-red crest. Look (and listen) for Pileated Woodpeckers whacking at dead trees and fallen logs in search of their main prey, carpenter ants, leaving unique rectangular holes in the wood. The nest holes these birds make offer crucial shelter to many species including swifts, owls, ducks, bats, and pine martens."
https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Pil ... r/overview

I prostrated my self and implored the Woodpecker to impart its wisdom.

I thought about a friend and the lesson that struck me most is to listen. We aren't always teachers. For whatever reason I imagined my friend who is usually offering his wisdom, and told him to think of me more as a friend than a student. If every moment were a teaching moment, where's the room to grow?

So I hope my friends see me as a friend, and I hope to impart the same- I will find clever ways to impart the wisdom without the need to lecture. One day. Hahaha.

So let's see what's already out there for this bird as an animal totem:

"So, what do woodpeckers symbolize? In many ancient cultures, the symbolism of the woodpecker is associated with wishes, luck, prosperity, and spiritual healing. Other cultures consider the woodpecker to represent hard work, perseverance, strength, and determination. Woodpeckers are also among the most intelligent and smartest birds in the world.
When this bird enters your life, it’s time to unleash your potential and change any situation to the best of your advantage. From the woodpecker, you imbibe the skill of being resourceful and determined.
Understanding the woodpecker’s symbolism is important to help you welcome new opportunities, protect your loved ones in need, and offer you the power to unshackle your ingenuity and creativity. It also helps you comprehend the distinct patterns, cycles, and rhythms of the world.
Woodpecker guides you to master the art of non-conformity, thereby helping you attain complete awareness of your surroundings."

Steve I am thankful for your contribution... Where it says the woodpecker creates value out of the most hopeless of things. That is nice. = ) Never give up hmm?

Even if we throw ourselves through the mud, it'll be alright.

This morning, I found a unique little black and white feather. I chuckled, feeling it was just for me, because our life long companions are black and white dalmatians. We've had dalmatians in this family since I've been alive. They're spotted just like my feather.

Home now doing a bit of research and it turns out this feather most likely belongs to the spotted woodpecker or a downy woodpecker.

Much like the wasp... The woodpecker is asking me to be mindful of how I speak.

Sometimes saying too much, destroys a potential relationship.

i wake up in the middle of the night thinking the sun is up. i go outside because i hear a bunch of birds and am curious by all the light. it seems like an odd time for the sun to be out, like it's too soon for the day to start. when i go to the backyard i see a mass of red headed woodpeckers. there's a group of 7 or so to my left, a group of 4 or more to my right. they disperse when i open the door. their red heads and black bodies were brilliantly coloured. i've never seen so many woodpeckers grouped together, and in my backyard no less!

well. i never actually got out of bed but was falling back asleep and realize i was having a hypnagogic experience. that was all a very lifelike dream...

I saw two of them today-a female and male-a site to see in January in the middle of the winter! But for some reason this message appealed to me. Maybe because we have been talking about altered states of awareness so much of late. And I wonder at the idea of how different inner experiences and people animate me lately. And why is it some people have the ability to stand out…. You notice them and they do not necessarily have to be physically attractive. But something makes their spirit shine. Maybe there are also those who have both the male and female elements combined in such a way that it draws you towards them. How is it we feel others motivate us, guide us and animate us. Delving into it and finding the answers, that’s my loving attitude and attraction to such beings.
