Light reflects from many facets of diamond

« on: Jul 25, 2017 05:26 am »

Amma shared...  *(paraphrased)

a devotee asked,...
"Amma, some days I have very little energy or devotion and even love... it seems...
on these days, I wonder if I should perform my "mantra", as it seems so mechanical, and I just seem void... (although i try)...
is it ok to do mantra when I am like this ?   I am concerned I harm the honor of the mantra and disrespect it...  does my mantra do any good on days like this ?"

Amma replies (in a couple of parables)...

"if your hand accidentally moves across the light switch, does it not still turn on the lights ?"

(I'll try and recall the other parable... very sweet).

Yes thanks Scott

The parable is about being in a dark room. It is better to practice the mantra consciously but even if we do practice it unconsciously it is still possible to have positive effects. As a man would be in a dark room. His very activity in that room could turn on the light so he could see. In the same way any practice at all of the mantra has that possibility.

I notice by constant practice I am at times exposed to an upliftment or happiness during the day with no physical corallary to illicit such experience.

What interests me about being alone is that often u get more insight into the world around you. I was just laying here alone and suddenly noticed my breath and it brought me back to practice on the mantra amma and yogananda gave me. If we are too much involved with worldly thoughts it is difficult to have heavenly thoughts and consciousness.
