As the sunshine lights up the darkened sky, the light within lightens one’s view of others in
spite of all wrongs and limitations.
This is the key to happiness.
Reflections I, Hidayat Inayat-Khan

The key which opens the heart (Gatha’s)

Every atom of man's body expresses his past, present and future. The
reason is that, in the first place, every impulse creates its vibrations and takes a
particular direction of activity. This influences the heart, whence the blood is
circulated through the whole body. In this way the thought is, so to speak, written on
man's face. Man's continual agitation in regard to others, his satisfaction or
dissatisfaction, his love or hatred, all show in his appearance. Everyone can know it
more or less, but the seer can read more correctly. It is difficult to tell definitely the
marks of a person's thoughts and feelings that are shown in his appearance;
nevertheless, partly by intuition and partly by experience, man reads them. There
are some in whom self-control is developed, who are capable of hiding their thoughts
and emotions, and yet it is impossible to feel deeply and to hide one's feelings from
the eyes of others.
No doubt form and movement speak aloud of one's condition, but the
expression of man's face speaks louder still. There come distinct changes at every
impulse, at every change of emotion, making distinct marks which are an open book
to a seer. The word Kashf means "opening," and it is used by the Sufis with the
meaning that the human heart is as a rule a closed book and the one to whom it
becomes open can read it like an open book. No doubt reading man's condition of
mind from his appearance is not such a difficult thing. Even dogs and cats can know
this and sometimes they know better than man. What gives one insight into another
is, in the first place, his sympathy. The seer first develops the quality of love. He
whose heart is kindled with the love of God is capable of the love of humanity. The
heart thus kindled with love becomes a lighted lantern, which throws its light on every
person the seer meets, and, as this light falls upon the person he meets, all things
about that person, his body, heart and soul, become clear to him. Love is a torch that
illuminates all that comes within its light, but it is the knowledge of God which is the
key which opens the hearts of men.

Dear Eric

This post u put up some time ago is something to read and re-read. i find that what is said here is true and while i am able to 'read' people's faces quite well their r errors we make in our intuition and judgement. Thus we may read someone wrong. But it is certain that we want to have others 'read' us because of kindness and love that is written in our appearance, in our face and eyes and most importantly in our actions. Sometimes we do not recognize why people leave us and close down.

Although often it takes time to know someone else's heart and what it does or does not express. Kindness and love always eventually prevail in those that have such qualities available to them. If they do not we r better off left without them. Some people r not able to extend their love out far enough to encompass our spirits. Although there are so many things that r happening in our lives at the present moment to b grateful.  We can practice this gratefulness for the love and kindness that r in our life at this moment! i see that u have been here since this thread started in 2010! Wow we have experienced much together dear friend. Who would know at the time that we would experience so many people coming and going and yet still maintain a friendship and love for one another. We r watching and observing these phenomena like a meditator would observe his thoughts or a screen watcher would watch a movie. We have been at the spiritual portal movie cinema experiencing all these meaningful entertainment plots and learning so many lessons from it.

hello steve,

thank you for all of your kindness as well. the portal embraces compassion as a practice and way of life. although as individuals we may not always exhibit these qualities, i come here as a way to center myself. i hope more find your portal and find enough inspiration to practice while away from the portal as well.
...
it's an interesting time we live in. i believe those in power control the information we're being fed. we must question the things we witness on the news and think logically and just as important we must open our hearts to one another. don't let the media successfully perpetuate anger, fear or separation between one another.

I read the sufis wisdom in reflections by  Hidayat Inayat-Khan again tonite. I am grateful for my own ability to always leave my heart open to others no matter what we have experienced together. I have found that there are others in life who will close their hearts down to us. But at the same time I find my own opening to the treasures that spirit is making available. Love and friendship really never close down. There are only misunderstandings and the inability to evolve with the changes occurring in life and the love or friendship you have with another. It is most important to pray for others and our own understanding in relationships we have with others. Make friends with your past its part of your life. Be kind to your memories....open up your heart and mind.

Hello Jitendra,

Thank you for the bump my friend, what a beautiful thread!!

Yes sometimes it takes a while to open the book of the human heart of another. This is the workings of karma we have with them. Yet eventually a humans true colors manifest. I found this thread very wonderful and extremely insightful. I have met such people who could cast their 'lantern light' on another and I aspire towards being the same.

"What gives one insight into another is, in the first place, his sympathy. The seer first develops the quality of love. He whose heart is kindled with the love of God is capable of the love of humanity. Eric I really cannot get enough of this thread you started. I read it over and over! It is an irony that recently you mentioned what you thought to be my antipathy towards Donald Trump. I read these words by Paramahansa Yogananda: "I see every human being as God if you have this realization you cannot dislike anyone. If you once saw God in some form or experienced Cosmic Consciousness for even a moment then you would love everybody. It is a strange experience it makes you love everybody just as your own family."
