“Food, Sleep, Sex and Death make us human. A human being distinguishes himself from an animal by doing these things consciously. What is compulsive becomes conscious. But you have an intelligence and can conduct yourself consciously.  If we can’t conduct ourselves in a dignified way our compulsions overtake our intelligence. There are four basic instincts we have in our bodies they are; Food, Sleep,Sex and Death. There is compulsion and choice. If you are a monkey you do not have a choice but as a human you do. Once you become a human being you conduct yourself by choice. There is an element of your body, but not the entirety of who you are. What you long for can be transformed. This longing, will it be changed by time or by conscious choice? Will you evolve or will you not? It is essentially a longing. Isn’t it? Do you want to be driven by something or do you want to be the driver?”

~ Sadhguru.

Biology is the front end of life for a bull, it’s ok because that’s all he knows. But it shouldn’t be for a human. Intelligence should be. And then consciousness. Biology is part of this life.  We are not denying this. An animal uses its intelligence for its biology but a human has the ability to use it’s intelligence for transcendence. We all have a personal choice. To what extent we use that choice for something makes us what we can become. We have to be careful that we are putting our intelligence and consciousness in the front of our life and not our biology.

Although I do not currently consider Sadhguru a person I would follow as a guru ( Who really cares about my preferences anyhow?) Although I must say I have never met a spiritual leader who spoke about sexuality in a way that has spoke to me like Sadhguru. He has the ability to describe the spiritual life in an encouraging way to me that doesn’t focus on blame and sin, but rather leads the mind away from obstacles and obsessions with his practical wisdom and sense of humor.

I guess I shouldn’t live with regrets but remember that life is a dance of learning as you go. If you get out of line in your steps, as long as you are living you can attempt to dance to the rhythms surrounding you as you step back in place. The past is gone and the future is an unknown. All we have is the present in which to live and make our choices.

Thanks Steve.

I do believe I have gotten out of line from craving physical intimacy so *strongly.* It really is strange how distracted and dumb I've been when that intense longing starts coming up inside me and being around extremely attractive women.

Also... Interesting choice of words- rhythm.

I just woke up from a dream I was playing the most awesome and unique drum rhythm. Art was there, which is the first time I've ever experienced him in a dream- and he was complimenting my drumming. I have zero drum skills in waking life. But the sounds I dreamt of were so dang good.
Also really strange the dream ended with cocaine... I don't do drugs(lol).

I think like in our life events, sometimes God has a sense of humor in our dreams. Listening to Sadhguru talk about being conscious in everything it reminded me of you when he said… be more conscious in; sex, dying, eating and…….’SLEEPING’. You have taken sleeping to a transcendental level.

There just seems to be so many lapses of awareness in life’s activities. It is a constant challenge to have our attention span on what we are doing and to do it consciously!

Thanks Steve,

I finally watched the videos.

I really like how he says most important is practicing awareness. Realizing we have a choice, and understanding how much of our actions have become compulsory and how much are by choice.

It makes me think about samskaras. And I look at my family and my self and see we have many compulsory patterns/behaviors. I think I sometimes get bored if I am not satisfying them because I don't always have the intelligence of keeping my self busy in new ways. I don't always enjoy deviating from my patterns, even if I desperately want to be freed from them.

This makes me wonder about our animal nature as biological creatures, and samskaras.

We are all creatures of habit, that is why it is important to recognize, when God sends us people in our life to challenge our behavioral patterns, we should be grateful 😇 and not irritated. Good habit patterns are helpful like daily meditation but patterns can also limit our consciousness to a certain routine and thus a limited conscious awareness.
