At a service held at Mt. Washington for SRF monastics, Brother Anandamoy paid tribute to his fellow-disciple of so many years:

“I remember when I heard Bhaktanandaji speak for the first time.  Believe it or not, after all these years I still remember what he talked about.  There were just two points.  The first one was: develop an ever deeper devotion for Master.  And the second point: practice the presence of God during the times when you are not meditating.

“Later on, I realized these were his favorite subjects.  He spoke about them again and again over the years.  And one time a man said to me about Bhaktananda: `You know, he always speaks about the same thing. It’s old hat!’

“I replied to him: ‘It’s old hat for those who do not practice it. But for those who do practice, they can hear it again and again and again.  They never get tired of it, because it is the essence of our spiritual life.’

Thank you Steve. I'll still need to read from the link you've posted but for bringing this to my attention... It is very fitting. Who cares if it's old hat, devotion to Master and practicing presence of god during every day affair... It's really quite liberating.

Well I think the point of the anecdote is that you can never be reminded too much; the thoughts constantly stray from what’s most important.

I remember asking Brother  Bhaktananda what the meaning of 666 was when in my early 20’s. I recall him saying it was the number of man and he went ahead and described the qualities. Qualities that added up to 18....6+6+6 =18. At the time I was a bit overwhelmed by his response as he often had a rather simple explanation to complex questions that required careful and thoughtful attention. Sometimes knowledge requires self assimilation. He often left me with that conclusion.

Brother Bhaktananda - Prayers & Affirmations
In his Self-Realization Fellowship teachings, Paramahansa Yogananda extols the power of prayer. Our Guru has so humbly stated: "I am only a channel and the channel is blessed by what flows through it. That same power will flow through you, giving you happiness and power and purity."
And from GTWA, Paramahansa Yogananda says, "The salvation of souls through Kriya Yoga is my singular aim. I take no credit; it belongs to God and to the Great Ones who sent me. But my soul rejoices, for the channel is blessed by what flows through it." (God Talks with Arjuna -- Footnote in Chapter 4 - The Supreme Science Of Knowing God, pg. 427)
Our beloved Brother Bhaktananda suggested praying for others (and oneself) by using the “Peace and Harmony” prayer:
Visualize the person(s) you are praying for, and mentally surround them in divine light. Then deeply pray, “Lord, fill them with peace and harmony, peace and harmony, peace and harmony,” over and over, for about a minute. Afterward, visualize yourself in the divine light, and pray, “Lord, fill me with peace and harmony, peace and harmony,” for about fifteen seconds. Do this five times a day, and you will see a change come over those individuals and yourself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brother Bhaktananda also gave us a powerful prayer/affirmation for transforming our subconscious mind (and re-programming our thinking on various levels):
"Beloved Guru,
Help me to clear the subconscious mind of all negative thoughts.
Help to clear the subconscious mind of all negative ideas.
Help me to clear the subconscious mind of all negative experiences.
Help me to fill my subconscious mind with positive thoughts.
Help me to fill my subconscious mind with positive ideas.
Help me to fill my subconscious mind with positive actions.
Help me to fill my subconscious mind with spiritual thoughts.
Help me to fill my subconscious mind with spiritual ideas.
Help me to fill my subconscious mind with spiritual actions and experiences. Thank you Guru, for thy help and blessings, for thy love and joy,
And thank you Guru, for purifying my heart and mind."
It is amazing how some people’s personality stay with you a lifetime. This was true of Brother Bhaktananda. How I would love to see him just one more time walking out of the Hollywood Temple where he stayed for so many years and as long as I was in Southern California. He was the embodiment of humility. But he had a fascinating personality. He always would say, as I walked out of the temple on a Sunday morning service or a Thursday night service; “Master Bless You” as he folded his hands together and bowed before you.
But never be fooled by such a man. He could read you to the core if you asked him a personal question and I never saw him without an answer to any questions asked. He would listen to you carefully and then pause, as if he was asking something higher for the answer, and was not relying on his own minds answer.
He had the most unusual sense of humor. He could say things that seemed outlandish to the casual observer but if any one knew the inside jokes he made they would think he was hilarious while simultaneously being serious. For instance he would be giving a perfectly good sermon and then suddenly say something offbeat that seemed unrelated to the topic like.... “ and for those who take a shower without using a towel before getting out. It can cause the floor to get all wet. “ The strange thing about it was that when I got home I was taking a shower and while getting out of the shower and reaching for the towel; I realized I was getting the floor wet.
One time I went to one of his sermons and as he spoke quite intently about a subject he suddenly included the line..” and for those who spend hours at Masters crypt at Forest Lawn. Please be considerate of the people there.” Guess what. I was one of those people who spent hours at Forest Lawn meditating in front of Masters Crypt at the cemetery.
I remember a friend telling me that he had said during a sermon that if a foreign force ever invaded the U.S. the aliens 👽 would help us. He was asked not to make such statements in services by Mother Center. But several months later during a sermon my friend said he made the same statement. It seemed he was oblivious to any suggestions made by any authority accept the authority he received from above.
I remember doing the Om technique with my om board on Sunday mornings during the short meditation at Sunday service. One of the monks came up and asked me ‘please don’t use your om board at Sunday morning service.’ At the time I followed the monks request with some forbearance and resignation. Apparently Brother Bhaktananda recognized that I was accepting the suggestion somewhat begrudgingly. A couple weeks later the same monk came up to me and told me that Brother Bhaktananda had told him that I could use the om board. By that time I began to understand Brother Bhaktananda’s unusual sense of knowing just how to handle the training of a some what eccentric personality as I have had most my life. ‘Just go along with it’ let me figure it out on my own without the strict rules. Sometimes tugging a persons conscious works better than rules.
Once I remember singing at India Night. I was standing by Brother Bhaktananda and he quite casually said to me that ‘ I did not need a microphone because my voice was so loud.’ His humor often had a twist to it. Although I think it was a compliment it could have been looked at a different way. Which would always leave you thinking a bit and pondering about his wisdom.
Once I asked him if a girl friend of mine really saw ghosts and had a ghost friend. He slowly said “yyeess” “but it would be good to suggest that he move on”
And what surprised me more than anything is once receiving a personal letter from him when i was across the country. Just asking how I was. You can’t imagine how special that was. Being around that man and feeling his presence even today is a tremendous uplifting experience. No one knows the blessings of being around the blessings of an enlightened soul until you have been given the blessings of a lifetime.
I remember another soul who was very outspoken but when it came to humility he knew how to handle it. Once while telling Brother Turiyananda that Brother Bhaktananda had given me different advice than him, Brother Turiyananda replied . “ If Brother Bhaktananda gave you that advice you listen to him. He is the highest monk on the hill.”
The most important thing Brother Bhaktananda ever said to me;
‘Read the Self- Realization Lessons daily to stay in tune with the Master.’
Quite often I see myself as part of a great movement. I’m just playing a supportive role but it’s ok. At least I am beginning to understand it’s not so much about what you are that makes someone important. I’ve been shown shining examples in my life of what we aren’t. I mean the power, knowledge and insight of a Brother Bhaktananda was the revealing moment of that in my life.
I'm sorry that I cannot join in these times. My present dharma is revolving around the recovery of my son (although he will never recover from his autistic condition).
I am sure that to neglect this dharma/krama would be worse than neglecting meditation.
The ideal would be to do both, but my energies alas are not the same as 20 years ago.
I am hoping that you and your son will be able to see Amma if and when she goes on another tour of Europe. Having seen her many times I have seen all kinds of people with different challenges come to her retreats. These people all seem to recognize that we all have souls and Amma brings this recognition to everyone present. She represents karma yoga so much more than Yogananda did… her emphasis has always been on service mccoy. In her compassion she recognizes that there is still the largest percentage of the population that have yet to assimilate meditation into their lives. She does have a meditation technique called IAm but it is much less demanding than Kriya Yoga. There are also a couple versions of it, one shorter than the other. I practice the longer version which still is done in less than one half hour.
She always leads every one in a guided meditation before speaking. Besides Bhaktananda I had never felt I was in the presence of a living Master till I met her. Being the embodiment of Divine Mother she is much more demonstrative than for instance Brother Bhaktananda who I believe hid much of his divinity behind the veneer of supporting the Kriya routine and Paramahansa Yogananda’s mission on earth. However when it came to saying what were his convictions even Mother Center did not seem to dissuade him otherwise.
It was quite interesting the unusual things he would suddenly say in a sermon. They appeared to be unrelated to the subject. Yet they answered very important points that people needed to hear. And I would hear that he would for instance would say something about aliens and was asked to not repeat such things in sermons but a month latter he would again say the same thing. He was a bit of a maverick in that sense. Being directed by an inner source rather than the the concern of what other people may think.
I recall Brother Bhaktananda chatting with someone who said to him; “I could talk about this all day.” The Brother replied to him;  (Well) “I couldn’t “ Brother was always short on words and talk, but was able to cut through the wasteful chatter. He gave a few words of wisdom that gave you the impression he had a recognition of everything you needed to say and the response that was most helpful as well.
😂 yea lol he could have a dry sense of humor when needed to cut through ego. He told me something once that shut me up to silence. But I believe that sometimes the naked truth is better than sugarcoating it with niceties.
There are different kinds of spirits. The Bible even councils us on discerning spirits.
Discerning of spirits is a gift of the Spirit that allows believers to perceive the source and nature of spiritual manifestations and activities. It can help them to see beyond the natural world and discern if a spirit is of God, of the devil, of man, or of the world. It is not a natural or psychic ability, but a supernatural detection system that requires the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. It can affect how believers understand sickness, behavior, relationships, and spiritual gifts.
Brother Bhaktananda once helped me discern a spirit involved in my life. I asked him to help me since a spirit had entered my life who made his transition in 1969 but was still lingering on the earth plain. Brother Achalananda also spoke to us about spirits and his experiences with them. Sometimes various types of spirits are with us because of our habits and behaviors.
Steve, do you mean disincarnated entities? Was the entity you are speaking about harassing you?
Yogananda spoke amply about tramp souls which are evil spirits, but you are probably referring to other kinds of entities as well, not necessarily evil.
