Service brings joy and opens us up to Gods grace. It is wonderful to serve others as serving others actuality serving God. This site is a way to serve freely. People like Eric and others who have come before have made it possible thru their service.

Steve,

Thank you for all you do. I hope more seekers come here and feel inclined to share. I really appreciate having talked with you today on the phone. The path Amma prescribes for service and mindfulness is exemplary and challenging for the likes of myself, no doubt one who takes freedoms for granted. On following guru's, I believe she is right to say it's all the same. I wanted to share a chapter from AoY but can't find it... I can't remember the exact story but I think Yogananda was being of service for a specific festival, spending all day and night helping to serve food and working behind the scenes with Joy in his heart. By the end of it Sri Yukteswarji tells Yogananda something like, because of his actions he would never tire from anothers day work again.
You know, despite my poor response to volunteer work while visiting Amma the experience is unforgettable. I feel I am beginning to piece this together. Whether it's Inayat Khan, Yogananda or Amma it's all the same... Behind each face is God. Learning to recognize God as One through the many, a strangers smile is no longer a strangers smile. When you begin to see God in all there is, service no longer feels like effort or bothersome and instead Life is Joy. I felt this way today at work. Having a job you like helps. But the real service is round-the-clock, daily practices and efforts to be with God, who alone alleviates one from undesirable perceptions. In the words of Inayat Khans guru, Abu Hashim Madani,

"    There is only one virtue
              and only one sin
for a soul on the path:
virtue when he is conscious of God
and sin when he is not.
"
Peace Brother! I am inspired by you!

Hmmm thanks Eric
