Which is really another word for restlessness. In GTWA, it is said that identification with the alternating waves of consciousness is restlessness. I wonder, how do you deal with impatience which strikes us in various forms. I notice it on the road, at work, at home. The worse is at home, when there's nothing to do and no one to blame but yourself.

Some days the resistance to good habit(meditation) is so great, it invades and deteriorates ones desire to pursue any meaningful or new connection. Eventually, the reality of 'same-old same-old' becomes stale enough, yet ironically, the development of the good habit can be equally interpreted as "flat." Even when you know this experience is false.

Lately it's just a matter of putting up with, dealing with the change, knowing that it is only a cleansing process to the greater Reality I seek. from a transformative perspective, these habits of old don't burn out overnight. I say cleansing because, once the same-old is no longer entertaining, even if we fall short, we don't give up the fight. Sometimes balance is prescribed, if only to appease a dying tendency. Maybe one day we can overcome and put these irritabilities to rest.

Restlessness impatience irritability all similar states of consciousness. Each moment we live we have to deal with these frustrations and each moment we do so valiantly Practicing the presence, mantras and observing our behavior Asking assistance along the way. Since there is moving at a constant change in this material world we live in we get quite used to it and it being in any static State leaves us restless.

The best way to put it I can think of is that our consciousness is like a jar of water. In this jar are sand particles. When someone takes the jar and shakes it up those particles just whirl around in Chaos. The world is a similar thing to us. World puts us in a whirl. It takes some time to settle down and watch all the particles floor back down to the bottom so again we can see clear and experience clear and feel peace. This is what the meditation techniques are all about this is what it they help us do just settle down quicker to go in that state where all our thoughts are settled down from the chaos of the world.

thanks steve, sometimes restlessness or irritability comes when we are trying to change undesirable impulses- i read a story from inayat khan on perspective. to sum it up, i think inayat khan was pained from his nightly vigils, staying up later then normal. the then pupil inayat khan asked his murshid if he approved of his actions and the teacher asked if he thought god would be pleased with him torturing himself. the point made was that right attitude is the key to success.

when we see god as a divine friend and teacher we are able to treat ourselves a little more gently. we are able to treat others just as kindly. right attitude means creating liberation from the cold or limiting perspectives we often ensnare ourselves in. in the case of over-eating or even sexual urges, it may be hard to change when we are used to giving in but with a loving heart and a faith in god, we can change(or is it that we revert back to the knowledge of our changeless state).

it's nice to know that every day is a battle, that meditation helps bring us back to that place of calm. when an impulse becomes so strong that you see you are knocked off centered, feel with your Heart and have faith in the Lord- the caretaker of all souls.

the ability to catch ourselves comes from the practice of repose. we may not always catch ourselves in the act, we may suffer greatly, but little by little we may strive towards union and complete harmony. our suffering becomes a blessing the moment we desire to live in accordance with our souls calling. additionally, continued practice of good habits becomes joyful alignment.

I think we also find ourselves knocked off center by being in the presence of people who are unable to find their peace because of a lack of The practice of meditation. Even among those that are close to us-spiritually speaking-we notice the tides going and coming in and out the...spiritual presence being strong sometimes and weaker at others.

i believe this goes back to right attitude which may be called perspective. the teachings are there to help us remember we are not the high or low waves of change. when we are around others who are experiencing impatience/irritability, if our perspective is right, we do not feel affected by the seemingly chaotic environment. it looks like you do a great job if you are noticing these things. sometimes just noticing is enough to keep you steady when others are not.
