I remember a SRF monk once saying that having material bodies is proof of the manifestation of desires. Because if we did not have desires that need satisfaction and can only be experienced in this material world we would not need to be here. It is amazing how limited we are compared to the freedom spirits and angels enjoy in the higher realms.

We often have to come to the awareness that as we experience different realities here on earth as well as on astral realms and in others terrestrial worlds we may not have the experiences with others that we desire yet we do have experiences. For instance I really wanted to meet some members of this forum and yet there are still many I have not. It often turns out quite different than we originally envisioned anyhow; if and when we meet others in this material realm—-who we have met on the internet. In this sense we may need to experience others in a different way during this stay with them for various karmic and spiritual lessons and reasons.

Steve, even the angels bow to man. If God only wanted angels there would be no reason for us here now. We are made in His image. In fact, man has both angel and jinn inside of him. We are more than material bodies and it is possible to enjoy the freedoms experienced in the higher realms while here in this denser reality. The Heart contains all things.

Here,
Quote
Even angels bow to Christ, and Christ is the ideal man. Angels bow to the ideal man. Even when standing on the earth below, he is higher than heaven and the angels, if only he can be man, if only he exhibits humanity. Christ said, 'Ye are the salt of the earth, and if the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted?' This explains that man is the ideal manifestation, higher than mineral, vegetable, animal, and other kingdoms, and even higher than the angels. If he loses the sense of humanity, who is to come and teach him? He is the one who is able to teach.

Quote
There is one thing: to be a man; and there is another thing: to be a person, a man, by completing the individuality in which is hidden the purpose of man's coming to earth. Angels were made to sing the praise of the Lord, jinns to imagine, to dream, to meditate; but man is created to show humanity in character. It is this which makes him a person. There are many difficult things in life, but the most difficult of all is to learn and know and to practice the art of personality.

Nature, people say, is created by God and art by man; but in reality in the making of personality it is God who completes His divine art. It is not what Christ has taught that makes his devotees love him; they dispute over those things in vain; it is what he himself was. It is that which is loved and admired by his devotees. When Jesus Christ said to the fishermen, 'Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men', what did it mean? It meant, 'I will teach you the art of personality which will become as a net in this life's sea.' For every heart, whatever be its grade of evolution, will be attracted by the beauty of the art of personality.

Quote
Again, jewels, precious minerals, and pearls can all be found in man, in his character, in his external and inner being. All this is hidden; but we can discover a pearl in a person, we can see in the heart of man a diamond or an emerald, all the jewels of this world are there if only we can see it. And not only that, not only worldly treasures but also all the heavenly things are there. Man represents the planets, he represents the sun and the moon, and he represents heaven and its angels; what does man not represent? He represents God. In that sense one may call man a miniature God, and it is the development of humanity which culminates in divinity; thus Christ is the example of the culmination of humanity. It would be hiding the greatest human virtue to hide this secret, which is the key to the mystery of the whole universe.

No doubt, compared with God divinity is the imperfection of God, but it is still the perfection of man. It is just like a drop of water, which is entirely, and absolutely water, and yet it is a drop in comparison with the ocean. The ocean is God, but the drop is divine. If man had understood this secret of life, no wars, no differences would have arisen among the followers of the various religions, who in all ages waged wars against one another's religious ideas. No prophet or master at any time would have been rejected or tortured or refused if the world had only known this: that God always comes that He always shows himself through the heart of the godly.

What I also find interesting is that human regard is given more value after its mortal passing. There are barriers like limited perceptions from ego-derived understanding which deprives us of Realizing the glory that is God in Man. Though, it is all an integral part of experience and vital learning from the law of nature- Maya is our Mother and it is all God, there is a purpose to our creation.

Thanks Eric much to absorb here.

A soul, being invisible by nature, can be distinguished only by the presence of its body or bodies.  The mere presence of a body signifies that it’s existence is made possible by unfulfilled desires. ~Sri Yukteswar

Why we inhabit bodies; an explanation by Sri Yukteswar;

“Resurrected One, I want to know more about the karma which forces souls to return to the three worlds.” I could listen forever, I thought, to my omniscient Master. Never in his earth-life had I been able at one time to assimilate so much of his wisdom. Now for the first time I was receiving a clear, definite insight into the enigmatic interspaces on the checkerboard of life and death.

“The physical karma or desires of man must be completely worked out before his permanent stay in astral worlds becomes possible,” my guru elucidated in his thrilling voice. “Two kinds of beings live in the astral spheres. Those who still have earthly karma to dispose of and who must therefore reinhabit a gross physical body in order to pay their karmic debts could be classified, after physical death, as temporary visitors to the astral world rather than as permanent residents.

Further talks from Sri Yuktessawar on inhabiting bodies;

“Beings with unredeemed earthly karma are not permitted after astral death to go to the high causal sphere of cosmic ideas, but must shuttle to and fro from the physical and astral worlds only, conscious successively of their physical body of sixteen gross elements, and of their astral body of nineteen subtle elements. After each loss of his physical body, however, an undeveloped being from the earth remains for the most part in the deep stupor of the death-sleep and is hardly conscious of the beautiful astral sphere. After the astral rest, such a man returns to the material plane for further lessons, gradually accustoming himself, through repeated journeys, to the worlds of subtle astral texture.
