i read from the gita that when we renounce something, the mind too needs to be trained. in other words- if we tell our bodies, i will not put food in you past this time- but the slightest inclination of reward lights up our brain, and can produce restlessness because we did not renounce the desire mentally. so it might be that restlessness comes about when we practice a particular discipline but our mind is giving in to the thing we are trying to with-stain from
