In lesson 72 Paramahansa Yogananda talks about the importance of relaxation in meditation and the spiritual life. But he goes beyond just physical relaxation which he gives exercises for and  also includes mental and energy relaxation. He includes methods for tensing and relaxing various body parts to withdraw energy from those body parts so that you can experience total relaxation.

Muscular relaxation means withdrawing energy and consciousness from the wave of muscular motions. It 'is extremely important for spiritual development.'
